Why isn't there a convenient quote function to quote others?

It beats having to write
Code:

all the time.
I know there is a "Quote" button in the editor, but then you have copy and paste the name, etc, and the process is just very cluttered.

@Alqaholic,

go to My Prefences at the bottom of the page

Show quote button: YES

this will give you a green quote button that does not require formatting...

Agree, Rog. I find it easy and quick to highlight, copy, paste, highlight, quote

@dalehileman,
Geez, just enable quote in your profile, as suggested earlier.

Personally, I'd rather people refer to others' posts by simply clicking on their small green (or is it bluegreen) username.

The whole quoting extravaganza is excessive here.

Thanks Oss but does doing so permit me to more easily quote others or others me; and in the former case doesn't that require one reproduce his entire posting

…as I often like to select or condense, eg,

I've often done so although find it somewhat cumbersome, referring to your posting above for instance just as "#…..984"
