Choice picks to see at Stratford at the moment are 'King Lear' and the 'House of Desires.' And yet, I have to see something completely different: 'The two gentlemen of Verona'

Verona is a town I won't be visiting this year. However, I am going to Bagniocavallo which looks very charming in the photos.

Photos can be deceiving: when was the last time that you saw a dump in a tourist guide. Still, I bet that it will be charming, as I trust your taste.

Taste is in the mouth of the beholder. A lemon by any other name would still be bitter.

Bitter, but nice as an accompaniment. I have always had a fondness for that particular fruit, though I eat them rarely.

Rarely have I eaten a bitter lemon, but it is a good drink to mix with gin or vodka. Schweppes make a nice one.

One is the start of any counting session. Two is a pair, and three is next.

Next time try counting backwards, just for variety. I have never tried counting anything in order to fall asleep, but, if I did, I don't think it would be sheep.

Sheep meat used to be known as mutton, and I used to enjoy that; but show me the butcher nowadays who sells mutton. These days, it has to be sold as lamb, and I almost feel sorry for the gambolling little critters as I tuck into my joint.

Joint custody of children from a broken marriage must be one of the saddest indictments on our society, at least it's better than estrangement.

Estrangement is, often, the best option, despite what it may say. One can't forget that some marriages are abusive and violent; and others were made without any real love.

Love for the children would, you would think, keep people from behaving too selfishly. But you would be wrong.

Wrong decisions can often be made when a couple is in the throes of conflict. Some manipulate the children to take their side, and others use their children as weapons.

Phone a friend, that is if you've got one. A friend in need is a pain.

Pain really grabs your attention. You can't tell it to take a walk and come back later.

Later, we shall probably all experience some of the pain of growing older. Old age is not a great thing to look forward to.
