Al Jazeera have claimed that the video of the murder of Nicholas berg was filmed from within AbiGhraib prison - presumably, they imply, to deflect attention from American abuse of prisoners.
The "evidence" appears to my inexpert eye somewhat underwhelming - but people may wish to see for themselves.
Warning - there is a small segment of the video played in a loop at the Al Jazeera site - in a small frame - it is not very clear, but it may be disturbing to some.
I read a article in the Sunday times yesterday which is sort of pointing to the same "conspiracy theory"
Let me see if I can find it online
Gautam- That article is only available to subscribers.
The Times - G! Could you post it?
I think the video odd - but, not being any expert, I have no opinion.
I don't find Al Jazeera's white chair and wall convincing though!
Well, conspiracy theories are a dime a dozen, no?
If it was published in one of the tabloids here, I would have not bothered even looking at it - but I trust the times to ensure that there is no smoke without a fire....
Yes - the al-Zarqawi thing, at least, seems sus.
Mind you, The Times has tragically fallen to the Huns, Goths and Visi-Goths - Mr Murdoch!
Gautam- Thanks for the text of the story. There are so many conspiracy theories, that my head is spinning. I think though, that this one bears close scrutiny!
Some guy has a website about this, in which he begs to be proved wrong. he believes that the 'terrorists" shown are all fat white guys, and that they're wearing bullet-proof vests. he points out the gold jewelry on some, real Muslim men apparently don't wear gold. there's a whole bunch of other creepy stuff, including the fact that Nick's father was "on the list" of people the administration were watching, for whatever reason, and that Nick had been detained by Americans previously.
it is all pretty creepy.
Well don't that beat all.
I believe all conspiracy theories which are anti-Bush.
Seriously, there's plenty of valid unanswered questions about this. Starting from the fact that there was no arterial blood flow when his neck was cut. He was already dead. From torture?
Now, why would arabs torture a TV repairman?
However, if Americans thought he was an arab sympathiser or spy....we know he was in American custody, for two weeks before. He seemed to be under suspicion.
Very murky business, and an incredible conclusion to draw, that the snuff video was staged by US secret service, to discredit the arabs.
!
Look what I just found.

This event should be investigated by real experts in Video and forensics.
Well - whatever happened - the man appears to be dead - and, if anyone cut his head off in that disgusting way, I hope he HAD been killed - mercifully - before.
