We are going to be having a 6 person band (drums, keyboards, bass, two guitars) playing at a function in our back yard. They need 4 outlets. Can normal home wiring support this? Do you suggest surge protects on the house outlets?

@Nora K,
If you house is wired to code, the breaker will trip before any harm comes to your house wiring and you don't need anything extra. Assuming they do this regularly, they probably know it will not be a problem. I suggest you ask them to be sure. You can always let them access outlets on two different breakers.
