Powell Unplugged?

Apparently, Colin Powell's appearance this past Sunday on 'Meet the Press' was just another tightly controlled media effort by the Bush administration to spin away the Abu Ghraib prison scandal.

As host Tim Russert asked Powell pointed questions about the prison scandal, Powell's posse decided the fire was becoming too hot for the Secretary of State to handle.

Suddenly, the camera and the audio feed was pulled and Powell was replaced by an inviting seascape scene of water and palm trees. Russert was not amused by the stunt, and admonished Powell for the tactic.

The camera and the audio was quickly restored.

You wonder how much more of this Powell will take before he resigns. From what I read about this incident, he wasn't happy about his handler stopping the interview.

I bet the new Iraqi democratic government was watching the interview and thought "yes, we can live with this kind of democracy". Cool

I like when McCain was asked about accepting the VP slot and he requested a palm tree shot too. Razz

In all likelihood, Karl Rove saw the interview and ordered it stopped. The aide was simply following orders from the man in charge.

Surely they're letting Powell sleep in the big house by now? I mean, he's been a loyal servant of the GOP for nearly 50 years, so you have to wonder why he lets himself be constantly marginalized by these right-wingers.

This is after all, the most closely controlled White House in history.

Even Powell is on a short leash.
