i totally know what you mean, my dad thinks i listen to really bad music just because its got guitars in it. people dont recognise the true talent in playing these kind of instruments and understand the meaning and emotion behind the lyrics. i'm not a great metal fan but i love the classics yet people discard stuff too easily just because it doesnt sound like every other pop band out ther, if people took the time to appreciate the music rather than just stereotyping, we'd all be listening to real, original music... shame... i doubt people will ever leave their britney and spice girls cds behind.
The problem with metal is: It's very easy to be full of angst and very difficult to bring it to the masses. There's a million bands out there doing metal (god I hate that term) and the record industry has to release it's quota to meet fans and skateboarders demand, but it's not the kind of scene that produces greats very often. I could list on ten fingers the real ?'metal' giants. Forget all the offshoots, new metal and all that pish, headbangers listen to ?'DC', ?'Motorhead' etc. wanky kids listen to ?'Marilyn'. Nothing wrong with that but it's really just rock opera and anybody who calls Manson ?'The Devil' needs to put on ?'A night on Bare Mountain' or ?'Phantom of the Opera' and say, so what's the difference? It's just art! Now piss off! If we're gonna class every band with distorted guitars as Metal then fine and if people don't like it, walk away, go put on your favourite music and stop chastising people for finding THEIR musical avenue. No musical taste is wrong! End of story! Just accept people have different tastes and leave them alone. I can't stand boy bands but somebody likes them and good! They're allowed to. Chill out!

Yes, boy bands should be shot, but some idiots like them. Some idiots eat McDonalds. Some vote Bush. Some vote Blair. But that's democracy for you. Wouldn't it be crap if we were all the same. Toronto's music scene is absolutely kicking!!! All that boy band stuff is easy to avoid, but kids grow up at their own pace. So let them be immature and then find Miles Davis!
