It's okay. Lots of people like to talk about guns, on one side or the other.

'cuse M-60, dyxlesia I'm afraid - comes from the memories you know, give me a hot gun any day. Ohhh, I'm tingling all over. Now you reminded me of the 50 caliber, pure heaven. Especially when you can put holes in things................... Not too mention the quad 50 or the 8 incher, now them babies should be in everyones garage, can't hang them in the back window you know.

The day that someone is killed in a drive-by centerfolding is the day you can equate guns and porn.

I think it's the papercuts that are the problem with centrefolds.
Luckily, the days of paper zines are almost over.

Why do they call it an a-salt rifle when it's used to pepper the enemy with bullets?

I don't know, man. I think it would look scary to anyone it was pointed at.

So would an old ball-and-powder Springfield...and that big Minie ball (something like .65-70 caliber) would probably do a great deal more damage than a .223 NATO M-16 or AR-15 "assault rifle".

Quote:
I say, get rid of 'em all. No civilian should have access to anything higher caliber than 9mm (unless your a legit hunter. But then, what would a hunter need with a semi-auto shotty?).

If I wake up to a burglar in my house, screw the 9mm (my wife does have one)...if I use a pistol, I want AT LEAST a .45 (or ever better: a .44 Magnum, a .454 Casull or a .480 Ruger) I'll take my Remington 12-bore shotgun over any pistol, though: one load of the 00 buck I use will drop ANYONE, alcohol, cocaine, & even angel dust (PCP) notwithstanding.

I should also mention that a .357 Magnum is similart in caliber to a 9mm (something like 8.9mm). A .38 or .380 is larger than 9mm (about 9.5), yet the 9mm or a .357 Magnum is DRAMATICALLY more lethal.

I bought a Ruger Mini-14 and was asking some "gun guys" about the stories I had heard that a .223 round would go for a mile and penetrate 3 houses. They pointed out some interesting links. Here's an exerpt from one:

Quote:
The FBI study clearly demonstrates the following: (1) that .223 rounds on average, penetrate less than the hollow point pistol rounds evaluated, (2) concern for overpenetration of the .223 round, at close range, has been greatly exaggerated, (3) with the exception of soft ballistic garment penetration, the .223 round appears to be relatively safer for employment in Close Quarter Battle events than the hollow point bullets tested.

Link

Here are a couple more:

They train us that we're responsible for every round we fire for as far as it goes. The pistol rounds will penetrate a building wall, so you could hit someone standing behind it. With buckshot, you have multiple rounds going out in different directions and you're responsible for each one. The .223 is a single round and will most likely not go through the building wall. Now I feel better about that.

Uhh.....not these walls. Smile My house went up about 10 years before the war started.

That would be the CIVIL WAR. It was built around 1850, complete with the foot-thick walls. & 3" thick oak doors. I think it would take a .50 caliber AP slug to go through them.

Tanks and bazookas are military weapons, and so is a fully-automatic rifle. But "assault weapons" are only semiautomatic, and made for civilian use.

I thought assault weapons were weapons like m16, Kalashnikov and Stg44. I've seen a Kalashnikov fire and it fired all of the rounds when the guy pulled and held the trigger. Isn't that full-automatic?

The M-16A1 Rifle (which would be counted as an 'assault weapon' by the common definition) is a selective fire weapon which can be fired in the semi-automatic (one round fired per trigger pull) and the fully automatic (weapon will fire as long as the trigger is held down) The M-16A1 is illegal for a civilian to own without a Class A dealers permit.

The AR-15 (also an 'assault weapon') is the civilian model of the M-16A1 that can only be fired on the semi-automatic setting (one round fired per trigger pull... there is no ability to fire fully automatic) and is legal to own in most states under current firearms laws.

There are 'legal' versions of most battle rifles... all that is done to them is to ensure that they only fire in semi automatic mode (a friend of mine owns an AK-47 that only fires semi-auto)

I hope this helps some.

If you have any further questions, please ask.

Also, the current Army rifle (M-16A2) DOES NOT have full-auto capability. Single-shot or 3-round bursts only.

Any semiauto M-16/AR-15/AK-47/whatever can be turned into a full-auto, usually very easily.

Thats why I specified that M-16A1 in my post (no sense confusing the non gun people)

As to the conversion... it is very easy to file down the seer pin in an AR-15 but when you do that, once you pull the trigger once... the whole magazine will be fired with no way to stop it until it is empty.

You can buy a conversion kit to turn an AR-15 into a selective fire semi/ full auto weapon.

Saying that, both the above actions are a Federal crime punishable by serious time in a Federal facility. Thats because there are laws against owning fully automatic weapons unless one has the proper permits.

Of course, we know all the gangbangers, outlaw bikers, drug peddlers, & other criminals worry about having the proper permits.[/sarcasm]
