I have avoided filling this thread with operatic arias--just one, so far. I wanted to include this example of bel canto, though, just because of the singer. Victoria de los Angeles was a Spanish soprano, with one of the greatest talents as a lyrical singer that has ever been recorded. Here she sings the soprano part in the Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, for soprano and eight cellos, by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Cheryl Barnes enjoyed a modestly successful career in Broadway musicals (Godspell, Jesus Christ Superstar), and she walked into auditions for Miloš Forman's 1979 movie version of the 1968 Broadway hit, Hair. This is my favorite song from that musical.
