@firefly,
I don't mind it. I think I only saw the Oscars dress, and liked that. In this photo, I like the black dress of the woman behind Lupita better, but that's more 'old fashioned', two different modes.

@ossobuco,
I think it's the feathers on that dress that bother me, and just seem weird and unnecessary. I have no problem with the jeweled cage over the short dress, I think that's rather interesting.

Some of the other dresses worn to the event were, in my view, considerably worse than that one, in terms of design, or attractiveness, or flattery to the wearer. Some were really nice. It was an interesting assortment.

Here's a link so you can look at some of them in the NY Times.

Met Gala Red Carpet 2014
MAY 5, 2014

The red carpet at the Costume Institute Gala, an annual fund-raiser for the Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute, is a crossroads of the arts, fashion and entertainment. Anna Wintour issues the dress code with the Costume Institute’s fashion exhibition in mind. This year's show is “Charles James: Beyond Fashion.” See the arrivals in the photo gallery below.

@firefly,
I looked through all the photographs and a couple of the outfits appealed to me - I think Charlize Theron's frock was my favourite -

And Kylie Minogue's -

And perhaps Emily Cole's -

I found about a dozen I could say I like, and at least a dozen that tussle to be the most awful, and a mix in between. That black dress I thought I liked, I changed my mind. I don't want to post the dozen.. well, we'll see how patient I can be.

I tend to find her annoying (not that I know her at all), but I think the dress is elegant -

I might like Gisele's if I could see it better..

Um, Erykah Badu's if she smashed the hat..
http://int.nyt.com/data/photostream/met-gala-2014/photos/717-master-1024-v1.jpg

a little severe but I like it

I probably just like the color, but the dress seems right for her, very pretty

This because Giovanna seems fun and it's playful

Plain but it works -

Similar to Gisele's

There are a few Almosts, but I'll spare you..

Dolly Parton made appearances, and performed on, several TV shows the other day. Every time I saw her, I couldn't stop thinking of Dutchy. She's always going to be connected to Dutchy in my mind.

@FOUND SOUL,
Thanks for the photo, Foundy.

We must put it on the wall in the reading room, in the word games section, which is called Dutchy's Corner.

@ossobuco,
I'm hoping California Chrome will win too.

I'm also in the mood to be pro-female today--I've decided to root for Bayern, #5 to place because the jockey is female, and #6 Ria Antonia to show because she's a filly, although I gather not a highly regarded one to compete in this field.

@ossobuco,
He ran a great race, with a great finish. I was loudly cheering him on as I watched.

I really hope he'll be able to take the Triple Crown.

He's a beautiful horse.

Now that the race is over I suppose there's only one thing to do.

I'll have this meatloaf with the side of carrots and the garlic mashed potatoes with freshly chopped shallots and Garrotxa cheese.

Oh, and put the costs of that kindly old lady by the door on my tab. She's been nice to me, figure it's about time to be nice back.

The chef also added some peas, for additional color and texture appeal. He believes the meal begins with the eyes.

Done. That was very sweet of you. She said she'd be very pleased if you could join her for tea or coffee after you finish your meal. It seems you remind her of someone she loved long ago, and being able to chat with you would revive happy memories for her. It's something about your eyes, and what she called your "artistic hands".
