What does this mean?

I was admitted to the hospital. From what I remember, one machine showed 35 liters of liquid and an 85% positive flow rate.

Please don't write ask a doctor because since I was released, I have refused to go to one or talk to one.

Can someone tell me what this means?

@contrex,
If it was urine related, it was probably 0.35 L, which would be a maximum comfortable woman's bladder distention before having to urinate. Anything more and it is rather uncomfortable.

@farmerman,
I was admitted for respiratory failure. I don't know metric, all I remember is seeing the machines. When I did the math, I was given over 20 pounds of liquid. The liquid was saline, antibiotics and steroids.

@trying2learn,
Saline is about 8#/gal. 2-1/2 gal???????? You were leaking like a sieve! Where you catheterized?

@bobsal u1553115,
And 35 liters is closer to 10 gallon!

@bobsal u1553115,
What I do know is that I was given 10 liters of saline, antibiotics and steroids within 18-20 hours in ER. Leaking? No, my fingers and legs started to swell.
Yes I finally was given a catheter in the critical care unit because I was hooked up to machines.

What I really want to know is what it means to be on 35 liters and an 85% positive flow rate. Those are the settings while I was in critical care.They were 2 separate machines and that is what I remember the numbers being set at.

I would have asked except I couldn't talk.

@trying2learn,

You should have some discharge paperwork from the facility that says what you were treated for and what home care and medications you are to take.

@Butrflynet,
I did get discharge papers and the primary cause for admission was unknown. There were no meds I had to take.

@trying2learn,
Are you sure that was 35 liters of fluid? Somehow, it sounds like oxygen, maybe total volume or perhaps a rate of flow.

@roger,
Yes the machine showed 35 liters of fluid. The oxygen was 85%. There were 3 ivs and 2 going at the same time. I couldn't talk so I wrote on a piece of paper. All I was told was the machines were keeping me alive.

I still want to know what it means???

@trying2learn,
I know you don't want to hear this, but talk with your pulmonologist.. about what happened, the hows and the whys of it, what you could possibly to do keep that from reoccurring. Talking and listening (both doctor and patient) is really best.

I would gladly hear what he has to say. All I have to do is say his name and other doctors look like deers in headlights. He doesn't have an answer and no one knows why it keeps happening.

What I want to know is about the machines and what those numbers mean.

oops I screwed up (nothing new).

The 35 liters wasn't liquid, it was the flow rate per minute at 85% oxygen.
This is what I don't understand.

Sorry about the confusion

Thanks roger, you are correct. Can you explain what it all means?
