Hit a 'brick wall' here with numbers 18 & 24 of Great Fun Quiz 97. Any nudge or hint would be greatly appreciated, Googled etc. for hours! Also a nudge/hint for number 8 would be welcome. Can give hints in return.
@Ramires7,
Me too Ramires.For Q8 just use the little grey cells.
@Opsimath,
Penny dropped, googled succesfully - thanks Opsimath.
@Ramires7,
You're welcome.Hope some help on 18 & 24 will follow.
@Opsimath,
Think about Vowels and Consonants in each place name and positions of letters in the alphabet and add them together.
Can anyone help with Question 5. Came up with The Grand Duke by Gilbert and Sullivan in 1896, but this involved Sausage Rolls not specifically Sausages.
@sophocles,
Think a thicker penny may be necessary.However,re Q5 not entirely sure but think it is a Puccini work of 1896.
@sophocles,
Not sure that the vowels and consonants work in that way
@Opsimath,
a little help available for 18 if you know something about 30 or 33.
@glos 10,
33) Think about where the pairs in A and B are and what the pair in C are.It really is very easy I got it straight away.
@Opsimath,
Will set about working it out. I love it when people say an answer is easy :-). It's that "Oh yes, that's obvious" moment! Hopefully that will come to me later!
18 - a multinational question! Italian and South African to name two.
@glos 10,
I am surprised people aren't having trouble with Question 5. Is it a trick question. Sausages and Opera! Any hints appreciated!
@glos 10,
33. FREEBORDS writer. Best of luck.
Any luck with 24?
@Ramires7,
That's a brilliant clue Ramires.
@sophocles,
Don't think people are having trouble as much as wondering if the obvious answer is the correct one.
@Opsimath,
In case people are reading these posts and wondering what question 24 is then here it is.In mensaland you come across a signpost telling you that,Beirut is 181 miles;Helsinki is 699;and Sarajevo is 1017;logically how far is warsaw?
@Opsimath,
The obvious answer being ?
@sophocles,
Sophocles,see my earlier reply on the subject.
@Opsimath,
It has to be The Grand Duke 1896 e.g Sausages in Sausage Rolls. Puccini work of 1896 La Boheme. I don't think so!
@sophocles,
Sophocles have you read the Caruso story about him and Nellie Melba?Also,wouldn't it be sausage meat in sausage rolls?
@sophocles,
Think about Vowels and Consonants in each place name and positions of letters in the alphabet and add them together.
Still having trouble with this. Have you actually solved it?
