They're stuck on, like stone cladding. It's a veneer, purely cosmetic.

If they are not part of the structure, if they are false, they are usually stuck on.

For internal decor, false beams can be amazingly lifelike. Applied to the outside, they usually look terrible. Pastiche is not the way to go, style-wise.
