Hi English teachers,
I formed a sentence and have wished to know whether it is acceptable. Please advise on my following sentence, many thanks in advance.
The killer pleaded the judge for clemency by lightening his sentence.
@Loh Jane,
"The killer pleaded
with the judge for clemency by lightening his sentence."
It might be better written: "The killer pleaded with the judge to show clemency by lightening his sentence." Additionally, although lightening is not incorrect, i think most native speakers would say: " . . . by reducing his sentence."
