Except for the last, all are in popular use.

@milimi,
My preference is "- I am going to visit my friend. "

or alternately...

- I will go to visit my friend.

Other members may describe the specific grammar issues of tense and/or voice.

@milimi,
All of them see use in different situations, milimi. They often have adverbs attached - always/sometimes/ on (day)/... .

@Ragman,
I will join in the Ragman 's preference.

The question was: "Which is the right form:"

@milimi,
- I go and visit my friend. 75
,-I go visit my friend. 94
- I go to visit my friend. 38
- I go visiting my friend. 12

The last two open to interpretation: For instance #3 implies there might be several reasons for the trip but in this particular case the most important is the visit

No,. 4 as Dave implies, leaves one dangling. My BH, who is much smarter than I, says, "It's bad English". To me the English is okay but the suggestion is that during his visit he's considering an exit

In British English, we might use "go visiting" if there were a number of different friends to visit.

@Ragman,
Ragman: My preference is "- I am going to visit my friend. "
-----

??I am going to visit my friend every week.

I am going to visit my friend all the time.??

I will go to visit my friend each and every Monday.??

Odd, isn't it, how future collocations don't describe the routine, the habitual very well.

This highlights how less than amateurs should not attempt to teach thee most complicated thing they have ever done in their lives but know as much about it as they do brain surgery.

Luckily you will be around to rebuke them for their temerity, eh, JTT?

@contrex,
Do you consider it desirable to have charlatans in positions of expertise, Contrex?

@contrex,
That is true, I am. I have pointed out numerous times how you make a grand pretense to being an English teacher. And I have shown that you are a liar and a thief.

But in fairness, in this thread you never presented any more evidence of your thieving nature.

I'm sorry, Contrex, that I failed to mention and commend you on your focus, strict as only you can do, on the language issues. I guess that's the teacher in you.

@contrex,
Go for it, Contrex!

Should I point out that you are going to, once again, fail to focus on the language issues?

Like many unsubtle people, you are very prone to labouring a point.

@contrex,
You think that the issue of a guy, an English teacher no less, who invariably fails to address the area wherein his expertise is supposed to lie should be handled in a subtle manner.

A guy who, we must remember, instead of focusing on his area of expertise, snipes from the peanut gallery.

Contrex is subtle??!!
