Is Cuba a developing country? It has a lower GNP than places like South Africa, but it also has low infant mortality ratre and high literacy rate.
I'd say it's more like a strangled country. Strangled by Fidel on one side and the US on the other.
That's a great question, Moose. 50 years ago, I think most people would have considered Cuba a developed nation. A lot of the social benefits - such as the high literacy, and low infant mortality rates - remain from those days. The music and culture that we still have access to would suggest that while Cuba regressed economically, it didn't slide back into 'under-developed' status.
Hopefully, some of our non-U.S. business heads can chime in on this.
I agree with Wilson it is not a developing nation but one that has all the trappings of a developed one. However, the neighbor to the North to satisfy the emigres from that nation is doing every thing it can to assure it's continued poverty.
It is past time for a policy change. We should deal with it as we do all other communist nations.
