I generally watch the grass grow while waiting for paint to dry.

a hairdryer would help dry acrylics - not on too high/hot

Oil is lovely and if you use alkyd oil paints (Griffin Alkyds) they dry in 24 hours, even impasto dries in 48 hours. you can't hasten the drying of oils with a hairdryer though.
