It wasn't that long ago when pilots were flying after a three martini lunch; most got canned after passengers or the stewardess reported them.
Recent reports about American pilots have been very good to amazing skill!
Having flown around the world several times (during my travels to over 150 countries), I can say honestly say that the only time I had a close call was when we were on our departure out of Las Vegas when I was working as a traveling auditor in the sixties. We had a flat tire, and the pilot stayed on the ground after take-off speed, and used the whole runway plus some. There was smoke all around the plane, and we had to use the slides to get off the plane. That was the only close call - thankfully.
