Is thumbs down derogatory

Many thanks to Map in http://able2know.org/topic/229405-1

I'd been advised to thumbs-down a posting I wish to occupy less conspicuous position under My Posts, not because I don't like it but simply because it has too many replies to retain my interest. However I'm wondering if doing so somehow demeans the OP

Depends on the OP, now if you thumb down This Clown he'll cry and whine about it on the forum for three freaking years! Cool

Most people just ignore the thumbs feature. Personally if I don't care for a poster I'll put them on ignore, no need for the thumbs feature.

@dalehileman,
I do it all the time. If a particular thread that I used to participate on has gotten too lugubrious for words, I just 'down-thumb' it so that it no longer appears among 'My Pasts.' Saves space. I'm sorry but I really don't feel any guilt about the potential of denigrating somebody or hurting their feelings. There's such a thing as being too damned sensitive.

@dalehileman,
I thumb down threads I'm not interested in all the time. It improves my A2K experience. I think thumbing down individual posts expresses disagreement but thumbing down threads just means you don't want to spend any time there.

I thumb them down when they get old and tiresome, or out right obnoxious. Individual posts is more of an insult. Of course, when you report spam, it's an automatic down thumb.

For those that are here for crosswords and puzzles and nothing else, I ignore the OP. They don't get their feelings hurt because they don't know about it, and I don't have to see them.

With the absence of alternative, clearly thumbs-down is in
