Context:
The primary indication for TIPS was to maintain portal vein patency foroptimal surgical outcome. Eight patients underwent contrast enhanced computed tomography (CT) and 1 magnetic resonance imaging diagnosing PVT. Shunt creation was determined by available targets at the time of TIPS and by prior imaging.

Wow Oristar, your pushing my knowledge with this one, but my take is that the size and placement of the shunt is determined by the places available to place it (the available targets)
