Why do people deny evolution?

@farmerman,

acknowledging flaws or gaps in the data is a constant task in science in any pursuit. A "Flaw" gives many scientists opportunities to "get to the bottom of the error and determine how far reaching it is"

Sardonic laughter.

And I notice the funding was nicely downplayed by it almost seeming to be just an afterthought. No doubt the "passel of workers" will be all ears if you care to get to the bottom of the error and determine how far reaching it is.

We do so welcome being critiqued vigorously by colleagues don't we?

It's a part of the human condition that you show so well here spendi.

Humans take pleasure in showing that other humans are wrong. They are willing to argue vociferously in that regard. The ones with the facts end up winning out.

@parados,
No they don't. Irrational beliefs rule. Factmen just sit on the sidelines.

Have you never wondered why factmen are nerdy? It's because nerdiness causes them to be factmen. Swots.

If a factman sat down and studied the facts it wouldn't take him long to realise that he's not as keen as he was on factmen setting the agenda.

I sat down to read Dawkins "Climbing Mount Improbable" a few years ago to get an update on current cutting edge evolutionary thinking but was shocked!
The book was full of guesses and hunches and missing links on every page, so I snail-mailed Dawks to say how disappointed I was, and he wrote back saying "Of course there are missing links.." as if it was perfectly normal!
And scientists STILL haven't produced a satisfactory smooth, flawless model of how evolution works that nobody can argue with..Smile

A review excerpt- "the Apostle of Atheism (Dawkins) has a long way to go to make a convincing case for his faith"

@Romeo Fabulini,
So this obviously isn't a fragment of a Roman plate,
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2013/02/05/article-2274073-175E1067000005DC-663_634x532.jpg
that archaeologists guessed looked like this.

There's so many missing pieces, such archaeological incompetence. If Romans really used plates they would have found all the pieces.

Great comment, Izzy. Clever...and right on the button!

That must be why you are still writing on the wall of a cave. Because the nerdy factmen just sat on the sidelines.

That it was the Romans what invented the plate and not Plato after all.

We were talking about extinction at our own hands. Before science there was no danger of that. Now it's a possibility. Or some say it is.

Without science we would have gone extinct a long time ago, lol. Humans have no evolutionary advantages in the animal kingdom EXCEPT for our intellect and problem-solving abilities. That is what separates us from the animal kingdom. However, we are a young species relatively speaking. It's one thing to recognize that our cognitive capabilities separate us from other organisms. It's another entirely to assert that without religion there would be no morals. Religion is responsible for plenty of immoral things throughout history.

Actually, being educated is quite useful. It allows you to spot bull-shitters on subjects such as evolution like yourself and Neologist.

@Romeo Fabulini,

Notice he didn't post a link to any scientific article or journal. He posted a link to "creation.com"...

And do you know how fossils are formed, Romeo? It's amazing that our fossil record is as complete as it is. We have plenty of fossils that clearly highlight evolution as a process. We don't have ALL the fossils that have ever existed. That's ridiculous.

Wtf are you talking about? lol
Most of us here know how evolution works (except you, Neo, and Spendi). What do you mean a model of how evolution works? This is not "new cutting edge research".

@JimmyJ,
Classes ought to drill into their students that assertions of a self-justifying nature are not worth a wank and wanks are of little use from an evolutionary point of view. Apart from the off-hand chance in a sperm bank.
