I just saw that the cost of the investigation into Bill Clinton was $65 million dollars, and the cost of the 9/11 invetigation has so far cost $15 million. First of all, how could it cost this much money to look into this stuff? What could cost $65 million dollars? And second, is it worth it?
Whenever a political investigation is in order, it becomes a big production; which in turn makes it seem like everyone...right down to the caterer raises prices on their services.
The answer to the second part of your question is, probably not.
Televised hearings are an opportunity for a lot of grandstanding for publicity seekers and second guessing by pundits, and too often it seems results breaking down by party affiliation can be forecast in advance. For example, consider Condi Rice's appearance: left and right wing analysts appear to have heard two entirely different versions of the same testimony.
(Which is not to say Congress should not investigate matters of criminal misconduct or breakdowns in national defense in some less public forum. But save the soap opera and media circus for any resulting trials.)
