A recent huge scandal in Uzbekistan where as many as 50,000 sheep were killed by dubious vaccine gave food for lots of rumors, some of them compromising faraway America!
Back into late September I was doing some geological research with the team of French specialists. We were working in Jizzakh province of Uzbekistan where, according to unofficial estimates, more than 35,000 sheep died at that time. You see, that was just a real disaster for local farmers. And they said in neighboring Kyrgyzstan there were also many similar deaths.
Far as I know, there were investigations conducted later in both countries and some people were arrested and convicted on charges of selling either the counterfeited vaccine or outdated vaccine.
But recently in a chat with some vet expert I know for years I happened to learn some amusing details relating Jizzakh's story. The man dealing with the British Veterinary Association asserts the substance from Jizzakh they tested had some elements hard to identify actually. There are some tests still under way there and some military got interested in them. Experts don't exclude some bio-lab active in the region and probably some leakage of deadly substance or sort of it!
Now..... When I was in Jizzakh province local farmers blamed their president Karimov in all sins, you know.... and in particular in "letting Americans in and allowing them to conduct some tests there resulting in unknown viruses among the domestic animals and..... people"!! Frankly, I thought it was just rubbish and boiling anger of the farmers who were blaming everyone then for their misfortunes. Now I think there could be some meat in this......
@Davidu,
I heard it was A Russian bio-lab.
