Hi.
In the following question:
"Choose from the alternatives below, the tag question that uses an incorrect auxiliary verb form:
a) You thought it was still six, didn't you?
b) Those roses have gone pale, don't they?
c) Be quiet for a moment, will you?
d) He shouldn't have left, should he?
e) It was quiet in here, wasn't it?"
What would be the correct answer, and why? (i know, i've rlly bad english)
@iR6,
Are you a native speaker of English, iR6?
The "tense" or mood of the tag questions match the "tense" or mood of the initial statement. See if that helps you make a choice.
@iR6,
It's (b). It should read "Those roses have gone pale, haven't they?"
@iR6,
Notice how Lustig avoided the why.
@JTT,
Im brazilian... i think its because the main verb is "have", so it should be "haven't they"?

Welcome to A2K, iR6.
The main verb is 'gone', the auxiliary or helping verb 'have'; but the whole verb phrase, 'have gone', is the present perfect. In tags we use the auxiliary verb as the tag verb.
b) Those roses
have gone pale, haven't [don't] they?
