What say you?

**** you, Hawkeye.

Your response connotes what? This wasn't in your citizenship oath, so what's the problem?

@hawkeye10,
I 'm not quite ready to accept the proposition that I have ANY
duties to the collective. I dunno.

@OmSigDAVID,
you have one undeniable duty amd that is not to be a burden to society.

I have been a long-term supporter
of laissez fare capitalism, by whose philosophy no one can become that;
i.e., society is immune therefrom.

But what if that society is corrupt like the Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot and Saddam regimes?
Even our own western society is not always squeaky clean, for example some years ago the jobcentre told me to apply for a job in the Devonport dockyard, but when I read the job description I said "no way hozay" because I'd have to drive forklifts carrying missiles, bombs, shells and stuff to put on warships, and I didn't feel it was my "calling"..Wink
Likewise the jobcentre told me to apply for a job at Spar grocers, I turned up, took one look at the booze, cigarettes and porn mags on the sheves and thought "I ain't gonna sell that **** to people" and made an excuse and left..Smile

Q.E.D.: there is room for HUGE differences of good faith definitions
qua what is good or what is "corrupt", as Romeo puts it.
He implies that failure to be a pacifist is "corrupt".

@OmSigDAVID,
that's a silly point because youre making yourself the arbiter. If that is the case and its a true condition, you have the duty to remove yourself fom that society (as defined by ntural law).
However, back to my point (without weaseling please, you have a duty to not be a burden upon your society). That's way, a correct society has a duty to assist you to NOT become a burden to it."teach a man to fish", so to speak

Huh? I said no such thing, you philosophers are always reading things into stuff that ain't there!
I refused to apply for the explosives-handling Devonport job simply out of a healthy desire to stay alive!
Incidentally my hobby is PC wargaming, I've got no conscience problems with that at all..Smile

Always lift the lid when peeing. Unless you're a female, of course. Then it's optional.

Oh, and collect wood.

I was addressing what I (incorrectly)
believed Romeo's perspective to be.

Really?? If u were born into pre-1914 Germany,
then after 1933, does natural law say that u must evacuate,
whether u wanna or not, whether u own real estate there or not ??
I remain a little skeptical that natural law says that.

WHAT is the source of that alleged "duty" ??

farmerman wrote:

What is the source of that "duty"??
Who agreed to that "duty"??
Who decides whether a society is "correct" or not?? Is it Me??
IF, as u allege, a "correct society" has a duty
to assist u to NOT become a burden to it,
then that is an excuse for it to sneak in (liberalism = sneaking in) AUTHORITARIAN
interferences with liberty of the citizen.
Each citizen owes it to himself to break society
and its low-life henchman, government, when it endeavors
to USURP power, in violation of his freedom.
That is like fighting back against the schoolyard bully.

You traded the hypocrisy of the bible for the hypocrisy of US propaganda. It's debatable which has visited more evil upon this earth.

Which part of this do you think is evil mate?-
"Love one another, feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the destitute, tend the sick, visit the prisoners, look after the poor"- Jesus of Nazareth (Mark 12:30, John 13:34, Matt 25: 37-40)

The bible is like communism - a grand idea save for the intractable problem that mankind has to run it.

If people feel they need to join an Organised Religion or Cult to let them do their thinking for them, that's their problem not ours..Wink
