It is almost the job of special interest groups to take their issues to stupid levels.

Why can't the NRA agree that ID checks must be done, and a waiting period of a day or two won't hurt anyone? And, no one but law enforcement needs arapid fire type rifle...

The same reasoning that Planned Parenthood takes abortion too far. Everybody is afraid is they give up the stupid aspect of their cause, they'll lose the 'necessary'.

I could agree with both, if they were reasonable.

The NRA does NOT advocate zero I.D. checks.
And a waiting period...
Well why don't we have a restriction of stories that could be harmful to candidates until after elections. (It only seems reasonable)
And why not restrictions on any item that the government may classify as 'bad for the country' (Won't hurt anyone)

The problem is that they are restrictions that serve no other purpose than to restrict law abiding people from exercising their Constitutional Rights.

Just for my information...
What do you consider a 'rapid firing' rifle?
I have an M-1 Carbine... semi automatic with a 30 round magazine... I can fire all 30 rounds in about 15 seconds (spray and pray) or about 60 seconds (aimed) would you consider this a 'rapid fire' weapon or are you speaking of fully automatic weapons ?

Very interesting data about the 'Gun Show Loophole' that supposedly arms SO many felons:

Inmates serving time in state prisons during 1997 said they obtained their guns from the following sources in percentages:

Purchased from a retail store: 8.3 percent
Purchased at a pawn shop: 3.8
Purchased at a flea market: 1.0
Purchased in a gun show: 0.7
Obtained from friends or family: 39.6
Got on the street/illegal source: 39.2

The percentage of inmates who bought their guns from a retail store fell from 21 percent in 1991, when the last such survey was conducted to 14 percent in 1997. At the same time the percentage who obtained their firearms from family or friends rose from 34 percent in 1991 to 40 percent in 1997.

Source: U.S. Department of Justice Bureau of Justice Statistics.

Interesting, yeh, but - where did those "friends or family" originally get those guns from?

They might even have ID'd themselves, law-obiding citizens, before they made a bad choice and sold or gave 'em to the friend who turned (out to be) crooked ...

In fact, you can also see the same data as argument for gun control.

As in, basically: the more guns you put into circulation -- the more there'll be circulating ...

Indeed, that can easily be an argument for gun control. e.g. "Why eliminate guns because of the 1%? Because without doing so, so many guns are in circulation so as to prevent the ability to deny those criminals guns."

Yeah. I respect your right to disagree with me, but I do not believe anyone who isn't in law enforcement needs a rapid fire gun or rifle.

What is it for? Unless you like to fish with dynamite and spray the flora with bullets, I don't think you have hunting in mind.

These weapons are for killing people. I believe strongly that no one should have them. I believe they shouldn't be for sale to the public in my country or any other country.

I think the waiting period would save lives. If you'replanning to hunt, you know the date you'll need your gun. If you want to kill your wife, the waiting period may save her life.

I'm about protection in my home. We have had guns. We sold them years ago, because eventually, I felt safer with them out of the house.

Why do you want a rapid fire weapon? (Sincere question)

Trout fishing. One must be a stickler for proper form. Use nothing but #4 blasting caps. Or a hand grenade, if handy. Or at a pool well-lined with
stone, one blast from a .44 magnum will bring a few stunned brookies quietly to the surface.

Craven, I dont like to engage in the nyah nyah stuff over which you seem to salivate. My response was in particular, focused at your "self published true" statement waay back there.

"....When gun control is part of a nations culture....'
I had to respond to that statement. It made it sound like ''when the population is secured and pacified..."
Thats what Malcolms topics were about. She stipulated to the state of Japan as an exception, but even there, a gun culture has appeared almost in defiance of their group culture,.
.Her topic regarding London and New York was, indeed, crime in which guns were used , not maces.

farmerman, you are doing the "nyah nyah stuff". Rolling Eyes

You claimed "Craven, never works" as a response to me, when I said that with gun-control as a culture a nation can eliminate guns to a satisfactory degree.

You were unable to support this claim, as expected, choosing instead to offer a study that, while about guns, simply did not support your claim that gun control "never works".

So now you're stuck with claiming I prefer "home grown" evidence and "nyah nyah stuff".

All because of your inability to support your claim that it "never works". Laughing

Why do you want a rapid fire weapon? (Sincere question)

Sincere questions require sincere answers:

I was raised as the son of a soldier. I fired my first M-16 at the age of 10 and remember firing a .50 caliber machine gun from the turret of my fathers tank when I was 13. (Amazing what you can get away with when you father is a First Sergeant)

The weapons I have were his prized collection and the only thing he had to leave me when he died. (I was 15)

I have since sold off a few of them when my little sister needed money for college and I have added to the collection as my finances have permitted. I enjoy shooting as a recreation (like some people are good at golf and others tennis, I am good at putting lead in the 10 ring). I like hitting targets and knowing that I am a fine shot. I truly enjoy being on the range and competing with my friends.

As to the my 'fast firing' weapon, thats how my father purchased it many years ago from military surplus. It is a challenge to keep the rounds on target as you rapid fire and the challenge level goes up the faster you fire. It is just an enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

I also shoot archery and enjoy the challenge that brings.

I stopped hunting when I was 17 and haven't been since but I still enjoy the fun of staying sharp in my marksmanship.

Thats the best I can give you.

If you are a member of the NRA you should also consider membership in TNUSA, Ted Nugent's United Sportsmen of America.

Don't laugh, it's the fastest growing pro-hunt, pro-2nd ammendment organization in the country. I'm not going to post a link because it will get blasted, so if you're interested go to the guitarists name .com.

Thanks, Fedral.

I guess Craven was right. Fun and the nostalgic tie-in with your dad.

I think archery is something I want to try. Don't think I could kill anything, though.

Daddy was a detective and gave me a .38, and a .22 (imitation pearl handle.) They were cheap and inexpensive.

He took me out to the practice range several times to make sure I could use the .38.

Let me say I was not a natural. I thought if you pointed a gun in the general direction, you would have to hit it.... But, I was surprised at how a .38 could tear something up, as opposed to leaving a hole in it.

I also had a couple of boyfriends, who thought a fun Saturday was taking me out in the country and watching me try to shoot their hunting rifles.

I did eventually master shooting cans off fence posts, but not before these yokels' sides were aching. Of course, I had fun, too. Laughing at a woman with a loaded rifle is unwise.

I just laughed at a good memory.
How quick a guy can hit the dirt when someone turns around to ask a question,...and the rifle turns with them...

Ahhh. Good times.
