@snj,
OK, socialism is definitely more social than marxism, which is only good for smart one liners, but it is not as sociable as communism, where everyone on the commune dresses the same and shares the homegrown vegetables and partners, whereas....

What was the question again?

The chardonnay.

The greatest agrarian minds of out time have promulgated, nay shewn, that it's entirely dependent upon which side of the hill your grappa is grow upon and the appellation d'origine contrôlée.

That last post was so Notting Hill, it could have been written by Comrade Blair himself!

@snj,
Our ideas about socialism and communism originated with Marx. But our current concepts about them today has been shaped largely by propaganda disseminated by our respective countries and pundits. And most of what we "know" about socialism and communism is therefore mostly incorrect and even opposite the facts in many cases.

@snj,
Snj, here is a very good "picture" of the differences presented by a Marxist economics professor who got his Bachelor's at Harvard, his Masters at Stanford, and his Doctorate from Yale and taught economics all his life in universities. This is very much worth the time of anyone who wants to know the answers to your question.

It hasn't been shaped by propaganda, it has been shaped by the very people who put forth the theories and then proved their theories wouldn't work by first having to kill millions and millions of their own people and 2nd by making their countries into living hell of poverty and fear. You can claim that no one has "done it right" but what all these theories fail to take into account, and what is their down fall is, is humanity itself.

@Baldimo,
You are apparently referring to the experience of the USSR and China, but socialism was never established in either case. It was attempted using flawed methods that produced failure and about which you now complain. But you can't logically critique or condemn one system on the basis of the failures of a different system, which is what you are doing. Here. Don't take my word for it.
