@gungasnake,

George Zimmerman had been elected and deputized by his racially-diverse community to enforce their collective right to home security and property protection...

Let's get real, George Zimmerman was not "deputized" to "enforce" anything. He wasn't even a security guard of any sort. As a neighborhood watch, he simply agreed to report suspicious activity to the police. That's also something everyone else, who's a conscientious resident, in that community might be expected to do. It conferred absolutely no authority on him.

And, to continue to get real, Zimmerman did not protect his community by profiling, stalking, and killing, an innocent kid who belonged in that community--a kid who was engaging in absolutely no criminal or illegal activity when Zimmerman spotted, and profiled, and pursued him.

And that's why the homeowner's association of that community has already paid Trayvon Martin's parents a $1 million+ settlement--because their son was not safe in that community that night--he was not safe from George Zimmerman.

Is this your idea of a neighborhood watch?

Wikipedia gives us a sense of daily life in this community:
“Three weeks prior to the shooting, on February 2, 2012, Zimmerman called the police to report a young man peering into the windows of an empty Twin Lakes home. Zimmerman was told a police car was on the way and he waited for their arrival. By the time the police arrived, the suspect had fled. On February 6, workers witnessed two young black men lingering in the yard of a Twin Lakes resident around the same time her home was burglarized. A new laptop and some gold jewelry were stolen. The next day police discovered the stolen laptop in the backpack of a young black man, which led to his arrest. Zimmerman identified this young man as the same person he had spotted peering into windows on February 2.”

That’s what burglars do; they “case the joint;” they “loiter with intent;” they do prior reconnaissance; they search for weaknesses in the homeowner’s defenses. Criminologists understand this; criminal behavior is predictable. Profiling is just the practical application of this acquired wisdom.

In October of 2012 Trayvon Martin had been caught on a school security camera in a “no students allowed” restricted area “hiding and being suspicious,” according to the written report by a school police investigator who had witnessed Trayvon’s movements as he defaced school property with big marker scrawls of “W.T.F” – for “what the ****,” presumably his attitude toward life.

The officer tracked down Trayvon the following day and searched his book bag, discovering 12 valuable pieces of women’s jewelry, including wedding rings and earrings with diamonds. There was also a flat-head screwdriver large enough to be used as a pry bar for opening windows, which the officer described as a “burglary tool.” Trayvon was promptly suspended from school.

Four months later Trayvon was booted out of school again when he was caught with his personal marijuana pipe and a baggie rich with marijuana residue. It was his third suspension. Trayvon had been hanging out with his dad at his dad’s girlfriend’s place inside the community that George Zimmerman’s neighbors had elected him to keep under watch.

On the night of February 26th, George Zimmerman would telephone the police to report someone in a dark hoodie who was behaving suspiciously and who seemed to be high on drugs. Trayvon Martin’s body would later test positive for drug intoxication.

My guess would be that, in most Flori-DUH prisons, a dickhead who stole wedding rings would be viewed as about a half step above somebody like Jerry Sandusky, and treated accordingly by other prisoners.

Anyone who's really interested in understanding the injustice done to Trayvon Martin should read this article:

The Monsterization of Trayvon Martin

How George Zimmerman’s lawyers exploited racist stereotypes to justify the fear—and killing—of black men.

Patricia J. Williams
July 31, 2013

http://www.thenation.com/article/175547/monsterization-trayvon-martin#axzz2akRjHqid

It's a lengthy article, but it clearly shows how the defense successully exploited racial stereotypes to demonize Trayvon Martin, and it's worth the time for anyone interested in gaining a better understanding of this case, trial, and verdict.

@firefly,
Short memory? It was the media and the race pimps who turned this into a racial issue. The article was long on emotion but short on facts. Martin defenders always seem to forget that it was Martin who threw the punch's which lead to the self-defense shooting.

I also found it funny that the article only mentioned the black guy who shot the white kid and was sent to jail, they didn't mention the other case where the same thing happened but the black guy went free.

Nope, that writer nailed the Zimmerman defense's strategy--and it hinged on exploiting racial stereotypes. And they did it quite skillfully.

The prosecution's mistake was sitting idly and letting the defense get away with that sort of smoke and mirrors tactic designed to blame this victim for his own death, and using that to obscure everything the defendant did to create, and bring about, the conditions for that totally needless and avoidable death.

You seem to have missed the main point of the article.

And you know this how? I watched a majority of the trial, read a lot about it, it never was established exactly how alteration started other than what Zimmerman claimed which was not proven in court. I realize it didn't have to be, but, for purposes of debate, we would need to prove Zimmerman's claims credibility before using it as facts.

The Trayvon Martin who was shot that rainy night bore scant resemblance to the dewy-eyed child, about 12-years-old, seen in the liberal media’s favorite photo of Trayvon. Their chosen photo of George Zimmerman could not have been more unflattering and it too was many years out of date.

“At the center of most stories we tell in our society, cross-culturally and across centuries, is the struggle between good and evil,” explained Betsi Grabe, a professor at Indiana University – Bloomington, who has studied the effects of news images on public opinion. She said that photos gain the most traction when they facilitate the desire of journalists for a story with a distinct victim and aggressor. “If the ingredients are there,” she said, “that is what journalists will grab onto and present.”

The media fantasy bubble burst when up-to-date photos of Trayvon hit the Internet – all six feet of him, in a white “wife beater,” his mouthful of fashion-statement gold teeth glittering. Pages from his Twitter account confirmed his drug use and his low opinion of women. A tweet to Trayvon, reportedly from his cousin and posted five days before Trayvon’s death, alluded to a violent encounter with a bus driver: “Yu ain’t tell me yu swung on a bus driver,” the cousin asked Trayvon. The imposing figure captured by the mini-mart security camera buying a bag of candy didn’t look at all like the cuddly youngster on all the Trayvon souvenirs. None of the Trayvon T-shirts bear his Twitter handle: NO¬ LIMIT NIGGA.

I said this before…and it bears repeating:

The people "defending" George Zimmerman here in this thread disgust me a great deal more than does George Zimmerman.. Zimmerman may actually have considered a young man in a hoodie as suspicious…and worked himself into a state where an attempt at confrontation seemed reasonable. A tragedy occurred…a young man guilty of nothing more than buying a few snacks and a drink was shot to death because of the confrontation.

But the lowlifes posting here should be way beyond that suspicion. Every presumption here should be that Trayvon bought some snacks and a drink…and was heading home to watch a basketball game.

The vilifying of him…the snarky remarks…the past history should disgust any reasonable person.

There may indeed have been no racial component to George Zimmerman’s initial actions that night…but the lowlifes posting here are filled with bigotry and racial enmity.

I’d tell them they should be ashamed of themselves for the direction their arguments has taken, but to be honest, it doesn’t sound as if any of them have the strength of character or ethical considerations to see they should be.

Pity them.

They barely qualify as human.

@revelette,
It's not necessary to read anything about the Zimmerman-Martin case, because everything we need to know was revealed during the trial.

1. The prosecution failed to make their case
2. They failed to challenge "everything" the defense brought forward during the trial
3. Like-minded jurors will arrive at a not guilty verdict by virtue of their bigotry
4. The judge somewhat handicapped the prosecution
5. The SYG laws of Florida is primarily at fault; it justifies killing anyone based on "I was in fear for my life" Anybody can claim their fear, and get off scott free

Trayvon Martin exhibits planned at museums
By Jerriann Sullivan, Orlando Sentinel
August 2, 2013

As the FBI reviews the evidence in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, museum curators in Sanford and Washington are preparing future exhibits that will showcase the life of the 17-year-old teen who Neighborhood Watch volunteer George Zimmerman, 29, shot and killed on Feb. 26, 2012.

"Trayvon will probably be a bigger history maker than the men before him, because President Obama addressed the situation," said Francis Oliver, curator of the Goldsboro Historical Museum. "As soon as the president commented on it, Trayvon went down in the history books."

Curators can't plan for specific evidence from the case to be included yet because it was all transported to the FBI for the U.S. Department of Justice's investigation into whether Zimmerman violated Trayvon's civil rights.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture, a Smithsonian institution, told the Washington Post this week that it would like to display Trayvon's hoodie.

The museum's director, Lonnie Bunch, said the hoodie "became the symbolic way to talk [about] the Trayvon Martin case. It's rare that you get one artifact that really becomes the symbol," the Post reported.

Oliver – who has seen an increase in museum visitors since the shooting – said she'd like to sync the Goldsboro display with the National Museum's exhibit so they are unveiled at the same time.

"The next civil rights movement is going to be because of Trayvon," Oliver said. "All of these have issues have been stirred up because of the George Zimmerman verdict."

While Sanford waits for the Washington museum to organize its events, Oliver has collected boxes of memorabilia from the case that residents and visitors from across the country have brought to the museum and the memorial....

BULLSHIT

http://www.weirdrepublic.com/episode157.htm

Quote:

Rachel testified that Trayvon was almost at his front door – “I had thought he was by his daddy’s house . . .” Trayvon’s body was found much closer to Zimmerman’s truck than to Trayvon’s residence. When Zimmerman’s lawyer asked if Trayvon might have fibbed about his true location, Rachel called his suggestion “retarded.”

Trayvon’s body was found so far away from his residence that jurors were left to wonder if Trayvon hadn’t doubled back for a close encounter with George Zimmerman.

Zimmerman had lost sight of Martin. All Martin had to do was finish walking home, open the door, and walk in. He didn't have to run or even walk faster than normal.
