Are polls bullshit?

Oz politics is massively poll driven at the moment. I'm concerned that this reflects 'lazy' journalism ( lazy is probably unfair, given the layoffs of journalists, but the increase in paper acreage that needs words.

I'm also concerned that polls of a thousand landline owners is given front page status over actual news, but one thing I hadn't considered was that we lie in polls

And that we tell the truth if there's money in it. Bizarre.

I once was a member of a polling organization. But I gave opinions they did not like, first time out and they dropped me. Must follow the herd to be heard, apparently.
