I was once taught while becoming a missionary that gays and lesbians of the old testament were drawn to angel worship. One could say that Enoch was the greatest purveyor of angel lore... Are we from this to surmise that Enoch was gay?

Moses was guided by angels though the desert, as did Jacob and several other biblical characters have direct contact with angels. Mohammed is also said to have had his run in with angels as even paganism has its own angels and winged creatures...

Could angels possibly be an innate yet secretive symbol of LGBT culture?

The Roman Catholics indicate in certain terms that God is sometimes too angry... and Jesus also not very sympathetic at times... so Mary being the more gentler of the three would answer prayers more readily. Following this logic would not the angels likely be even more sympathetic than Mary?

I am not saying I believe in any of this at all, but I do find the subject of angels fascinating...

This thread is for the discussion and if need be, admonition of angels. I think even atheists find angels seductive though equally as improbable as God.

If you run across any pictures of angels in your travels in on the internet please post them here, also pictures of beautiful feathered birds are also welcome.

Oddly enough Islam forbids the depiction of Mohamed but not that of Angels and the Ginn... Why a flock and not a host? I just personally prefer the term flock... Smile

So here it is and, welcome to the Flock Of Angels...

An angel (from the Greek ἄγγελος - ángelos is a supernatural being or spirit, usually humanoid in form, found in various religions and mythologies.

The theological study of angels is known as "angelology". In Zoroastrianism and Abrahamic religions they are often depicted as benevolent celestial beings who act as intermediaries between Heaven and Earth, or as guardian spirits or a guiding influence.

The term "angel" has also been expanded to various notions of spirits found in many other religious traditions. Other roles of angels include protecting and guiding human beings, and carrying out God's tasks.

In art, angels are often depicted with wings on their back, a halo, robes and various forms of glowing light.

If you study pictures and paintings of angels you will also see there is a differnce in how they are dressed depending on the century, the denomination and the type of angel. There are the arch angels and the cherubes.
There is a lot of kitch picutures of angels too.
It is interesting with angels both historically, religiously and finding a lot of people who do not believe still talk about a guardian angel.

@saab,
anatomically they are an impossibility . All mammals that have wings merely substitute their "forearms" for wings and shuttle about. ANGELS are the only mammal (unless you consider winged horses like Pegasus) to have a perfectly useable set of arms, legs and then, on top of all this, they've got some means of supporting a set of flapping wings like a butterfly.

I asked this of a nun when I was in grade school and got detention. (That's when I figured that religion was trying to stomp out science).
I taught my own kids to be irreverently inquisitive and had spent several episodes in principals offices getting lectured and admonished by several Vogon "psychologists" of the school system. I never sided with the schools and merely commented about how my kids blinding insights should be nurtured and not held to scrutiny.

All because of some anatomically incorrect douche bag angels . I never got into any LGBT issues

@farmerman,
I know perfectly well that angels cannot fly. This does not mean that it is not an interesting subject in art, history and religion and theology including psychology.
Just like fairies, trolls, giants, witches and all the other creatures in fairy tales are very intersting for children they are interesting as subject for grown ups. The psychology of fairy tales tell us a lot.
What schols are concerned I think there are much worse things in school than pictures of angels.
When English teachers - not native speakers - do not know basic English grammer, when teachers do not know basic geography, when teachers are not neutral regarding other countries, but tell the kids their opinions which do not belong in classrooms.
When teachers descriminate foreigners, kids from poorer families - the list is long why I have felt iit would have been worth a trip the head master.

In the part of Sweden called Dalarna the biblical stories were always done in the national customs of the area.

I think the angel of morbid visited this thread while I was at the dentist today... (just kidding) smile

I had the weirdest vision today.

A sort of biblical matrix... I have always been searching for that actually.

All of the stories of the Bible suddenly relate to a hidden story. A very rich and real story that is cleverly concealed...

Instead we are told other stories. Yet each story has a symbol or several that relate to the hidden story. Like many incorrect passages all to lead the observer away from the few correct ones.

I have too many pages I wrote today about it and don't really know what to do with them yet.

Just consider the real dangers of first, deception and then indoctrination...

There is a hidden epicenter of all the biblical stories...

On the outside they are fables and on the inside they clearly reveal their deception, each like pieces of a puzzle...

It takes some speculation and sheer imagination to see the scope of the reality behind the deception.

The stories of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Bible are lies...

So the truth is otherwise...

I imagine "Jews" (i use that term respectfully) telling others (Sodom and Gomorrah) their banking practices and social integration skills are bad...

Three angels hosted by Abraham, Ludovico Carracci (1555–1619), Bologna, Pinacoteca Nazionale:

I've probably seen this one since I've gone through that museum - but I don't remember it. (One can get angel overload.)
