@hawkeye10,
Not even close.

We are helping the authorities by staying out of their way.

@jespah,
I applaud the effort to keep the people safe, while the police go in harm's way.

@Setanta,
Indeed. (I doubt such would work here.)

@Lola,
I'm cool with that. We've got food in the freezer. Our families know that we're all right.

Sat on the front porch a bit (15 - 20 minutes or so) and saw 1 guy walking his dog and 1 guy getting a smoke. 2 cars plus 1 cab. And that was it.

We are doing what we can, which is staying out of the way, thanking the responders and passing on any good information and positive reports that we get.

@jespah,
Watching and listening. Amazed that a city can be shut down. Safe is important! Glad you're safe, jes. And RP, too.

In the words of my grandmother: Oy, abruch.

the goal of terrorists is primarily economic destruction.

SUCCESS!

why not help the authorities by trying to draw the bad guys out of hiding by providing yourselves as targets? your reasoning is flawed.

@hawkeye10,
The goal of law enforcement is catching the bad guys.
One down, one to go.

Glad you're not running the show here, hawkeye10.
They'd be having lunch and planning their next move right now.

the collectives best interests are not always aligned with law enforcement's...for instance a recent case here where a major freeway was shut down for hours during commute to look for shell casings from a two car shoot out, which was over. the economic and environmental cost were substantial, but the police couldn't have cared less.

@hawkeye10,
I have a funny feeling the shoot-outs here aren't over.

The Boston collective -- from what I can see -- seems happy to give law
enforcement a lot of cooperation. After that we'll return to our normal
antagonisms.

I think of Boston as a relatively small city, while very populated, say in comparison to the greater Los Angeles area. But it looks (quick look at map) as if I'm wrong. What I am aware of in the Boston and Boston suburb area that has been a focus, is that there are several highways for getaways. I presume those are well closed. My take on the shutdown is that I'm impressed with it. I don't really care what Al queda or any other group thinks. I like the way Bostonians have been thinking.

@ossobuco,
Yep. I've even seen New Hampshire Staties heading south on I-93 to help out.

@George,
bbl - going a bit media-less to get a respite.

MEMA is telling people to go home. You can get home okay, right, George?

@George,
It's similar to how impressed I am with the hospitals, as described in the Atul Gawande article. Tip top in the way people pulled together.

@George,
They are not sure as of yet whether there are more than the two that are known so far. It may be a cell. These two Chechen brothers, or at least the one that is now dead left the country in January 2012 and returned in July 2012. The authorities are checking to see where he went other than to visit relatives in Chechnya. Sad that we have come to this in our world. Jes, you guys are wise to stay safe. We'll know more as time passes. Take care.

Yeah, the Stone Ham is north of Boston and Westford is further north.
Hermione & Nigel are in Cambridge so they never even left for work.
