But nobody congratulated anybody. It was plainly a major ****-up.

A reason for you to show some empathy, McTag.

I'm as sorry as anyone about the bombing and its effect on the poor victims.

But that's not what I'm talking about.

It's about the crass stupidity and incompetence of the people who directed the operation which followed, and the glowing light in which they see themselves.
And the bandwagon-jumpers, and the national security spokespersons.
Was there ever a bigger sledgehammer directed at a smaller nut?

@McTag,
I meant empathy toward American law enforcement. I am sorry if it sounded like I was referring to the bombing itself.

I think it is possible to show empathy for American law enforcement in light of the tense situation.

Also, I would not characterize them as seeing themselves in a "glowing light."

@wandeljw,
I think you're right on that, wandel. Always lessons learned hard, even freaking hard.

Presently I'm rolling my eyes at Bloomberg and a comment he made involving the guys' plan to go to New York. No link but that's all over the news here. The comment, which I won't quote because I don't remember it verbatim, was surely heartfelt, but potentially not wise.

There are many reasons to discuss various countries' or population's behaviors relative to each other, and behaviors as policy. I don't think this is the thread, even though I've joined in about it.

Individuals on that manhunt have stories too.

Dzhokhar then drove off before abandoning his car and disappearing into Watertown, leading to a massive manhunt involving some 9,000 officers from state and federal law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the US Department of Homeland Security.

9,000 ******* armed yahoos. Can you say "major overkill", JW? And how many tanks and armored personnel carriers? Can you say "banana republic"?

It's always a "glowing light" when it comes to these carnival sideshows. Pictures of people waving US flags. Jesus Christ, what the **** are these idiots doing. They probably wave the flag every time they successfully jack off into their sheets.

Heard from my friend who was working less than a block away and saw and heard everything - she is back at her office. She reports there is a general feeling of weirdness and of course they are thinking about the people who were hurt and killed but she and her colleagues are okay and the cleanup was very good.

Patriots owners and fans raised over $600k for the One Fund -

the Philadelphia Flyers' 50/50 raffle had a jackpot of $85,595 - a record - and the charitable donation ($42,798) went to One Fund Boston.

The Flyers are also auctioning off last night's game-worn jerseys...

Right now, based on TV reports here in Massachusetts, the MBTA patrolman who's in Mt Auburn hospital, recovering from a bullet (s) to his leg, may have been shot by other police on the scene. Right now, it's not real clear.

@wandeljw,
Yes, it was a tense situation for everyone involved. The police, who went to the scene in riot gear are normally involved with crime on subway , bus and train systems. The situation in Watertown had to be extremely hard on them, as they don't usually encounter such violent situations on the transit systems.

Also, 15 of the police ( patrolmen from Watertown and surround communities ) were taken to St Elizabeth's Hospital for treatment of nonspecified conditions. I'd guess that all these men may have been suffering from elevated blood pressure.

No, Region, it was a serious question. Are you able to answer it?

Yeah, guess which business the police kept open during the big manhunt for one injured 19 year old - Dunkin' Donuts!

Bostonians take back their town

Beneath the storefront window, people had placed flowers, American flags, stuffed animals and
the image of Jesus Christ. Pedestrians were taking cellphone pictures of the memorial and a
conspicuous block of smooth cement under a lamppost, the spot where the bombers turned
Marathon Sports into ground zero on Boylston Street.

It was Thursday evening, and the place had reopened for business only a few hours earlier.
The blood-soaked carpeting had been ripped out and replaced, and customers and employees
inside were embracing each other -- sometimes tearfully -- between displays of T-shirts and
running shoes.

"I've had 10 complete strangers give me a hug today, a big hug too," said Dan Soleau, brand
development manager at Marathon Sports. He had just watched a 4-year-old girl drop down
a daffodil amid the homemade signs calling for love and strength and just heard the girl's
mother explaining to her why such gestures are important.

@Region Philbis,
Take back their town ofter being cowwed by terrorists and chased into their homes to hide behind locked doors. I sense some over compensation for the earlier failure to stand their ground and failure to respond approximately to the treat.

But this is america, a high self esteem is important, be it reality based or not.
