is my below sentence acceptable? Thanks a lot in advance.
Desert flowers can be invisible for years alternatively or appear suddenly after heavy rain.

Not quite. Here's another way to say it.
Desert flowers can be invisible for years; alternatively,
they can
appear suddenly after a heavy rain.
