I'm told I need a dental implant. The dentist I have used for decades will charge for an Implant Abutment ($895) and Implant Crown ($1,195).

The dental surgeon will charge for Extraction ($385), Graft ($385), Implant ($1,900, Gas (optional) ($85), and Sedation (optional) ($450).

Aggregate cost: $4,760 (without options).

I just saw an ad in the newspaper for a dental implant ($395), post ($595), and crown ($795).

Aggregate cost: $1,785

Is the ad for the same type of services as my dentist and the surgeon he recommends?

Is there any way for me to consider possible quality or other differences?

Is it ethical, legal, or usual for the dental surgeon to pay he dentist a fee for having recommended him?

@gollum,
I have a dental implant. The prices that your dentist quoted seem to be more or less in line. Try your insurance company as, even if you don't specifically have dental insurance, you might be covered for the anesthesia for the surgery.

As for the other place, do you really wanna know where they get the implant from? Do you have any idea what kind of shape their license is in, etc.?
