Clary - again, thank you.

These snippets of travel news are really quite wonderful. Just a feeling of what it's like. I can just see the little, smiley lady.

And I chose to ride the tram, nice, old-fashioned, basic tram from Central to North Point at dusk/rush hour, a cheap and cheerful hour's entertainment; all human life is there. But a young Chinese woman gave up her seat to me - am I old and decrepit after all??!!

Clary, Just got back from Japan yesterday, but jumped onto A2K a few hours after traversing the front door of our house. Your Travel Digressions hit the top of "Your Posts," and enjoyed getting caught up. I just had to laugh at your "shopping till you drop," because HK is 100 percent shopping with a generous sprinkling of restaurants. LOL Keep on trucking.....$30 a nite in HK is pretty good.

Clary, this has been great reading!

I have a friend who left for Thailand this morning... I was able to tell her to expect good food! She & her husband are meeting two young women who, as students, lived with them. They're flying straight to Bangkok, I think and then heading for a beach.

Do you expect to spend most of April in HongKong and then get back to traveling further afield or do you know? This is the next best thing to being there... it is thrilling to be pick-a-back on your passport!

The interim apartment sounds fine to me. Simple tastes... but four rooms? That seems a lot for one person.

No, no, four rooms on the whole floor, and all of them empty. One for each person! I had my pick; and took the corner one as being quieter.

Yes, I do expect to spend April here, and when the books are finished, move on back to Thailand and Cambodia. Simon in Phnom Penh has seen an old French colonial building for sale, he wants to buy it with me so I can set up a School of English and he can have a sculpture studio. Stranger things have happened, but have I the nerve?

Hope your friend enjoys Thailand, Piffka!

Wow, Clary, it's all happening! A possible school in Phnom Penh! Does this mean you will live there for a bit? Now wouldn't that be marvellous!

I fully appreciate your choice of abode in HK. That's the way I find accommodation in Asia, too. Usually with a bit of bargaining thrown in. All you need is a save roof over your head, running water & a usable toilet. The action is out there!

Wonderful to read your latest accounts, Clary. My feet get itchier & itchier.

Dear Clare the Intrepid,

(Not Decrepit!)

Oh. One room... duh@! Embarrassed

Olga and Margo are getting together? Yay! Have a great time. Comparing cats will be loads of fun. Hoist one for us, OK? (Even if it is only iced tea.) So you'll be having a mini-meet at the same time so a2k folks are meeting in San Francisco. Cool!

Clary, the idea of a school in Phnom Penh is great! I hope it works out. Meanwhile, good luck with quickly revising those Hong Kong books. (And errr, don't chew any gum on the streets... right?)

With love,
Piffka the Dull

I echo Beth sentiments. Thanks for taking us along with you, Clary! - dev

p.s. Did you ever find anyone (sans allergies...) to stay at your place with the carpets?

Hey, good morning America!
Dear Piffka the Undull,
The school in Phnom Penh is in the nature of a pipe dream; I don't like hard work but I love putting people in touch with what they need (like my school in England where my intrepid and not decrepit partner does all the work)! Chewing gum is outlawed in Singapore but not yet here, I think.
I feel exceptionally dull at the moment, a cold and headache and today I have to write about SHOPPING which isn't my thing.
And devriesj, no, unfortunately nobody wanted to stay at my place so there's no money coming in Sad
But hey, I'm alive!
Short digression from the digression here to those that know a bit about my immediate past. It was my 31st wedding anniversary yesterday, but I haven't been in touch with languishing husband... we're doing a pray-in for his depression to lift on Easter Day (I'm not a Christian, but do believe prayer can work, though not necessarily at such a distance)

Clary, You are one brave pioneer - seeking horizons outside your comfort zone. I'm also foot loose, but always manage to return "home" after a few weeks. Maybe, if I were a bit younger......

I work at it, C I, basically I'd just be a hermit with A2K and good TV given the chance, but part of me tells me not to take that chance. I love sitting and watching the world go by - in a cafe, in a train, on a boat - so much so that my travelling companion Simon calls me a Coach Potato! Nothing strenuous, you understand! Even when I was younger...
