Yes OK OK, so I'm having a wonderful time!!
But it went into a very different pace today, since I left the bustle and 3-social-events-a-day of HK, and flew south, now on a beach for 10 days, virtually. I have a new wooden chalet, smells lovely, with a big white bed, mosquito net, fan, and a bathroom with a special addendum, a colema board. I shall leave you all to find out what it is until my next instalment. Anyway, I have had only raw fruit and veggies since noon, am starting to feel purer already. I'll be starting the fast properly the day after tomorrow when I've had just veg for a day - no more alcohol, coffee or meat for a while. And it's lovely, hardly any light so one sits listening to the waves and the rustle of the palms, I haven't spoken to anyone yet as I only arrived at dusk, all I did was have a soft and unwinding swim in the pool, alone. All on a small scale here. I shall have an early night and ask for soothing dreams. Good night all!!!

That is a nice sentiment, McTag, and very true.

I have been wondering how you're doing, Clary. Are you getting tired of eating wonderful tropical fruits yet (and yearn for a beef burger)? Is the colema weirder than it looks? I have to ask this... the standard joke from the states -- Did everything come out OK? Very Happy

I am totally envious that when you're finished with this purification treatment, not only will you be lighter than a feather with all sorts of lost pounds, but you'll have gained a new level of serenity. OMMMMMMMMMMMMM

How all is well. Hugs.P

I have been wondering & wondering how you are. I hope the quest for serenity has been successful. I suspect it has. Very Happy

I'm even PAYING for it, Osso! By the way, do write Almost French by Sarah Turnbull, right for you I think!

Well I tried to insert an update yesterday, but Koh Samui Internet connection is leisurely at best and downright nonexistent at worst, so I hope this works. Tropical fruit would be nice but no, on this fast I have just detox drinks (psyllium husks, bentonite, and pineapple juice) and herbal supplements, five times a day. And colemas twice. Coffee and cider vinegar in those. It's amazing how changeable you feel, I've been sleeping for England, and feel alternately stupid and bright, drowsy and alert - but mainly stupid and drowsy. It's very hot and sunny, a bit too much for me, so I'm hiding in the very faintly airconditioned internet cafe next door. while the slow-moving woman who runs it looks after her slightly-more-agile three year old. Trucks and motorbikes sweep by, raising dust. Behind me is the beach, fishing boats pulled up awaiting dusk, and rocks appearing at low tide. Palms rustle occasionally in the very light breeze. It's noon. The dogs are glued to the pavements in the shade. I think I'll have a swim before my third detox drink of the day....

What can I say, I was primed in this life as a bacteriologist. But then that is what I say when I pick up stuff from the floor, hey, I'm a bacteriologist... a magic word wand of my own.

It's not that I think other people than in my area are, er, unsanitarily oriented, it's just that everybody is, even here. Mostly it is fine, bacteria are, after all, quite normal flora. I am particularly messy about cleaning house myself.

Still, girl wary. **

• I'm not a bacteriologist, I just got a degree in it decades ago and shortly forgot most of it. Still, I scan with the old wary eyeball...

Clary

Hello.

Now I see why you've not been here more often to report on your latest episode. The internet & fasting somehow don't really compliment each other, do they. I'm impressed with what you're doing & think I understand why you feel the need to do it. It is not just 'detoxifying" the body is it?
My best wishes to you, Clary. I think this could be the start of something good! Laughing

BTW, Clary, if you're looking for further reading material, A Suitable Boy -Vikram Seth, is a wonderful read, especially when one has oodles of time to indulge. Or have you read it already? If not, it's huge, but an absolute delight, I promise! Very Happy

Like why do they catch fish only at night, I wonder?

(women talk about literature, hygiene, inner feelings, men talk about fishing)

Maybe, because hauling nets it difficult in the heat of day. Maybe, because fish come nearer to the surface at night.

Nice post, Clary, as always. As for me, I had fish & chips and peas, not mushy, in sunny Warrington yesterday, so I need a bit of detox too I suppose. Won't get it though.

There is a time for detox & a time for chips! (to every thing, turn, turn, turn ... ) Your chips sounded good! Though I don't know about the peas? ... but then that's a cultural thing. Smile
Now I want some good fish & chips! You've made me hungry!

Anyway, nice to say hello to you, McTag.

Dammit, please don't mention food on this thread!! On my fourth day, and perfectly happy with the detox drinks.. mystified a little by Osso's contribution, do you mean you're in favour of bacteria, and therefore they should stay flourishing in your gut? You may be right, and I'm certainly not a cleanliness freak, especially compared to you American hygiene faddists, but actually Olga's right, it's a complete clean out of all the ****, emotional, psychic (whatever that may be) and physical. You meet interesting people here, and are actually obliged to stay quietly pottering around the place, meandering up the beach in the cool, somnolently lapping the rather small but sculpture-decorated pool, having the occasional treat of organic carrot juice, veggie broth or a tender young coconut's juice. The over-an-hour-long 'reflexology' massage, just the feet and lower legs, was wonderful, painful occasionally but my feet feel a million dollars now.
Re fishing, I suppose they have learnt over the centuries that they can catch more at night, with lights. You see them all over the bay, white and blue lights, very pretty. Also you'd fry in one of those longtail boats in the sun.
I have decided (I think) to shorten my fast to only 6 days, so as to benefit from the Spa's restaurant - two days of resuming food but in the healthiest possible way. It figures in the 50 Best Restaurants in the World book! Yet a lot of dishes cost less than 2 pounds/$3.
If anyone should wish to study the website of this place, look for spasamui dot com. I'm not advertising it, but you'll get the pix.

BTW I have read A Suitable Boy, Olga, and really like it. It was a whole big slice of India just as I remembered it when I lived there. I love his poetry too - if you get a chance, it reads so naturally, you'd hardly know it was poetry, it's lovely.

The only Seth "poem" I've read is The Golden Gate, Clary. And that was absolutely wonderful! Very Happy I laughed & cried, laughed & cried .... But I don't think that's what you meant. I will try to track down any other poetry he's written. He writes so beautifully!

I'm so impressed with what you're doing! (I think I said that before? Very Happy ) But it makes perfect sense, it feels right .... And good for you for doing it! Very Happy
