In Hawaii, if you see a big Bantam or other tough-looking rooster strutting around in a front yard, it's a safe bet the owner is into cock-fighting. Very illegal and very, very popular sport here. There are news stories almost weekly about someone having been busted on cruelty to animals charges for staging cock-fights somewhere on his property. It's mostly, but certainly not exclusively, a Fillipino thing around here.
But it's legal here to keep chickens just about anywhere except in an apartment house. And that includes male companions for the hens.
