How can President Obama, who has seen this calamity and corruption with his own eyes, have the heart to suggest that background checks and a toothless weapons ban have much at all to do with stopping tragedies like Hadiya’s?

Background checks and toothless weapons bans are not needed if guns are banned altogether and the cops are set to chasing those who refuse to conform.

That is not going to happen in the US as we are not going to disarmed like the UK had done so such a program as you had suggested is not even science fiction it is fantasy.

Footnote the cops are outnumbers by a hundred to one by armed citizens so having them chasing all the guns owners would be amusing to say the least with tens of thousands of Wacos would burned through the nation total law enforcement personal in short order.

I agree with you here one hundred percent...IT AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN.

But for you to suggest that we are safer because it is not going to happen is a very, very bad joke.

We are not going to be safer. More than likely the legal ownership of guns is going to increase...and the shootings and killings, already way, way, way above the number in any other developed country ARE GOING TO INCREASE ALSO.

Strange my family had have firearms for generations with no killings, no shootings and that go for the vast majority of gun owning families.

Murder rates had not in fact been going up in the US but been going down by the way in the last years.

Quote:
http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2012-12-19/lifestyle/35929227_1_homicide-rate-randolph-roth-gun-control

The national homicide rate for 2011 was 4.8 per 100,000 citizens — less than half of what it was in the early years of the Great Depression, when it peaked before falling precipitously before World War II. The peak in modern times of 10.2 was in 1980, as recorded by national criminal statistics.

“We’re at as low a place as we’ve been in the past 100 years,” says Randolph Roth, professor of history at Ohio State University and author of this year’s “American Homicide,” a landmark study of the history of killing in the United States. “The rate oscillates between about 5 and 9 [per 100,000], sometimes a little higher or lower, and we’re right at the bottom end of that oscillation.”

Last year’s rate was the lowest of any year since 1963, when the rate was 4.6, according to the Uniform Crime Reports compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

However if you wish to drop the murder rate further end the war on drugs and thousands of people a year in the US will not end up dead every year and more then that in such supplying countries as Mexico.

@H2O MAN,
Well, perhaps the USA had learnt from what they did before? Until 1990, there still was the death penalty possible in Berlin for owning longer knives, ammunition or any other kind weapon. And if you knew about such, but didn't report it, you got prison up to 5 years ... (Law No 43 of the Allied Control Council)
This was changed only with the "Treaty on the Final Settlement With Respect to Germany", legally effective from 15 March 1991 onwards ....

@Walter Hinteler,

The US has plenty of laws, more than we need... the enforcement of these laws is selective...
for the most part, if money and property can be easily seized, well then, that's the law that gets enforced.

You are a little confused, parasite, it's Obama's very own 'fast & furious' program that enabled gangs to buy guns.

I think you are the one that's confused Spurt. Detroit gangs had nothing to do with Fast & Furious. The NRA however thinks gangs in Detroit should be able to buy guns.

One small problem with that Bill
Of the 12,664 people killed in the US where the reason is known only 360 were the result of drug laws and only about 750 because of gangs. The majority are the result of arguments.

@H2O MAN,
Since you claimed the majority of gun crimes happen in major metro areas, why don't you prove that first then we can talk about whether I have to prove anything.
You maybe should hold yourself to the same standard Spurt, though I know you won't.

Just look at gun violence in the United States of America...

...where legal gun ownership is the highest in any country!

That pretty much debunks the notion that "more legal guns will mean less violence and fewer shootings."

@Frank Apisa,

Focus on Chicago, DC, NYC and other cities that have strict, draconian gun laws
that prevent law abiding Americans from exercising their constitutional rights.

Do this and you could learn something, FrankA.

Focus on the fact that we have more guns in the hands of more people here in the United States than any other country on the planet...and we have more violence and shootings than any other country, H2O.

Your assertion that more guns is the solution is absurd...and contradicted by the evidence...whether you open your eyes and see it or not.

If you do open your eyes...YOU will learn something.
