The way the current opinion polls stand in Oz, if an election were held tomorrow, our conservative party would also be voted out. Our federal election is due about the same time the US one is. We can only hope we get the right decisions in both countries, and we'll be free of both the shrub, and his slimey little puppet over here.

But what good things have liberals been doing as leading parties? In saying this I do not deny good aspects of liberals as opposition parties.

I wouldn't describe our opposition party as being exactly liberal. It was back in the early seventies, but it's moved a quite a ways to the right since then.

Wilso is right on the money about liberals. The word gets tossed around like peanuts in a circus, but where are all those bleeding heart liberals expanding government to fence us all into nice little dependency programs and tax us into extinction as is so claimed?

Nowadays, Bush expanded government more than any other time in our history. And the corporations are the ones taxing us into poverty through raising prices....AFTER they get their tax breaks...

This whole idea that left leads to communism and right leads to fascism needs some serious research in this modern age. Things have been shifting for some time now, and we cling to outdated categories.

This country has THREE ideologies at work, not TWO. They are republicanism, democracy, and federalism. This is the way it was when we first set up our government: federalists on one side, and the demos and repubs combined into the opposition on the other side.

Nothing has changed, only the players.
