@Setanta,
Pomposity incarnate !

You don't seem to have noticed that this is a "fun thread". The "Setanta Encyclopaedia of Historical Paradigmatics" is irrelevant. It's a great pity that you only want to play on your own terms.

It appears to me that you are the one who wants to restrict the fun that people are having in this thread. Personally, i am more than content with the amount of fun i'm having here. Especially as it entails puncturing your pomposity.

@Randall Patrick,
Here we are talking about something that is abstract .
So for god to commit suicide we have to agree that he s Alive.
What makes anything Alive? Breath -Air -well will other elements -but air is the most essential of all becouse if air is removed Nothing can really be Alive . So logically God has to breath in one way or another if he wants to commit a suicide . or else god is air itself.

@shiva21,
In this fable of deism, God is supernatural so he needs no breath as he has no body, flesh etc. You can't define any god in anthropomorphic terms as they have no body or physical traits that relate to humans.

This is like asking if Bugs Bunny can commit suicide.

@rosborne979,
It's more than that; since God can do anything, he can commit suicide, then come back to life. It has no human meaning of what we call suicide. Besides, it's all imaginary.

@Randall Patrick,
Yes he can. But being omnipotent he can also reverse the process. This statement falls into a class of statements which leads to a paradox. I think they can be treated with 'fuzzy logic'

Randall Patrick wrote:

If God is said to be omnipotent then, by definiton, there is nothing He cannot do.

So, He must be fully capable of committing suicide, right?

If there be a God and He does, I wonder if we go with Him?

@Wildflower63,
maybe we do have a choice on whether to live or die. some babies die before birth, so what if they chose to die and it wasn't by chance or fate? and then there's babies that die soon after birth? what if they decide they don't like living and die instead?

@schruder,
And just how would a baby gain enough understanding and grasp of the world in the short existence to make that choice? Then, assuming it were possible, how would the baby cause its own death?

Let's apply some sort of logic and common sense here.

@schruder,
Most babies that die doesn't do so by choice, unless it's by infanticide or killing by others. Babies don't have the where-with-all to understand such a thing as suicide.

Nietzsche said that God died by murder, I suppose the Enligtenment was that act. After the Medieval Period He ceased to be the great and absolute source of political authority and Truth because of the incompetence which is what I think killed Him.
