Hi- I'm trying to help my church light a new sign. Running a new circuit underground from the building would mean trenching across 200 feet of parking lot. We have a parking lot light pole within 50 feet of the sign, but the pole light is 240v. The sign lighting is 110v. Is there a way to tap in to one hot phase, the neutral and ground in the junction box of the light pole in order to run 110 to the new sign light? Is it "legal"? I'd appreciate any helpful ideas. Thanks!
@outune,
I'm sure any journeyman electrician can handle this for you.
@outune,
If the 220 v is 2 wires referenced to a common then yes Out, if split phase you should get 120 v between it and either of the other two conductors.

Sounds like it ought to be legal but I'll query a couple of technical types with a link to this thread and if they know I'll get back to you
For sure however you might find a stepdown transformer pretty cheap
@outune,
Would probably be cheaper to give the sign a small solar panel and let it generate the electricity it needs during the day so it can light up at night.
@Butrflynet,

Which of course would entail the use of a battery, sometimes not feasible
