@JPB,
What are they saying re West Va.? I am guessing it's close - #s on Google and Politico seem reversed.
PS Hi all - gonna go offline soon to eat and watch (and give myself an ulcer).
Hope everyone's got enough snacks.
Exit polls are a device for networks racing to be the first to call a state, but there are actual votes that are being cast and will be counted. I think most of the networks will make the right call, but a lot of these states aren't tough to call. Mistakes have been made and can be made in those states (Ohio maybe) where the exit polls and actual reported returns are real close. For those states, I tend to take the projection of the first network to call with a grain of salt.
It really is crazy when you think about it. We just can't wait for the actual votes to be tallied.
SC was called for Romney with less than 1% of the vote in and Obama ahead 75% to 25%
Question I have is when are the exit polls taken. Heard that it's usually around 3:00 so unless it can be pretty certain that the distribution of voters is essentially the same after 3:00, as before, the exit poll results have to be questionable.
So far, zero surprises in called states.
All I can assume with these states wherein one candidate is way ahead and no one is calling it, is that the exit polling heavily favors the guy behind in the count.
@jespah,
I could have called any one of those a week ago.
Another reason for exit polls: Network people have something to speculate and pontificate about while the results come in.
@jespah,
WV was called early for Romney
PA is 'too early to call' - not too close to call. That's good news for Obama.

Angus King (I) projected to win the Senate seat in Maine. He will succeed Olympia Snowe (R). King will probably caucus with Dems.
@Cycloptichorn,
I think your reading too much into the words being used
@Finn dAbuzz,

Oh, I think not. The idea that Romney was going to win PA was always a really long shot.
