Is there a way to change my alias on this site (i.e. without opening a new account?)

you can submit an essay on why you need to change your name.

I have heard of folks getting a one time chance to change their name...

the ruling hamsters are kinda arbitrary.

may I suggest amoebis?

How long did it take you to come up with that response? Did you figure it would take too much time (longer) to actually answer my question? Anyways I see that the (ruling) hamsters aren't only arbitrary but stupid as well.

No it shouldn't but I've already asked a question and I don't want to have to ask it again (have the same question be posted under a different alias (which would look weird/imposing to a viewer)). But that's irrelevant: please explain to me what's so difficult about actually answering my question??

No.
I have inspected the advanced setting sections, as well as every section in the "my account" setting, and it seems that there is not an option to change your username.

Rockhead is correct: use the contact us link at the bottom of the page and request a change. I also remember that a change is a one time allowance, but I'm not a mod so am not positive.
