@JPLosman0711,
JPLos -- you might get a more scientific handle on down-thumbing if you read Wikipedia on the "Handicap Principle". You will find that your general feeling about the matter is confirmed as correct.

In fact the principle has applications to the NFL and much else.

For those who don't wish to read scientific material the basic principle is that the lower the cost of an activity to an individual, and down-thumbing is assuredly cheap and easy, as are ad homs and similar nonsense, the more distasteful fit, discerning members of the female sex find the activity to be.

It is thus un-American in extremis. Possibly seditious.

@spendius,
Obviously, the display of handicaps on borrowed money is cheating. As if a peacock borrowed its tail for the purpose of attracting a female.

This principle applies to actors who "borrow" character.

@George,
If you wish to go with the Chiefs and the Vikes with the spread George I can accommodate it. Signify if you do.

@spendius,
Was the Manchester United/Chelsea game shown in the US?

That was what I call a game of football. 120 minutes of non-stop action.

AndyD's picks (although I am skeptical of some of them because of things he said later. I'll check with him tomorrow morning for clarification):
SD, GB. Det, Chi, Den, Car, Cle, Mia, Hou, Minn, Oak, NYG. Atl, Phil (21-17).

And Rhys chimes in from Boston: SD, GB, Det, Chi, Den, Wash, Balt, Indy, Hou, Minn, Oak, Pitt, Atl, NO (31-28).
He mentioned M Vick may, may, be benched this week. What's going on there?

JPLosman: I suspect you won't believe this, but I did not misspell your name deliberately. I can tease other players - it's the spirit of the game - but you are off limits.

For the ladies--"tease" is used in a manner there which I presume is below your radar horizon.

Not that I would ever have known from first principles but only as a result of experience. Not that it changed the result except in one unusual case.

@George,
In order to relieve the dreadful boredom between Mon night's game and Thursday's I offer players of the spread game a bet on the election.

30 gets 10 for Mr Obama and 10 gets 30 on Mr Romney.
