How good to be seen ... Cool

I asked if I need to delete both Windows Media Player & RealPlayer ... he said no, that VCL would "override" both ... (nope, it didn't)

VLC can co-exist with Windows Media Player and RealPlayer. But then, of course, is the question of which of the competing programs will Windows use by "default" to play which video files.

Anyway, I've tried to download VCL twice now, but with no success.
I have no idea of what I've done wrong ... followed all the instructions exactly, but no VCL . Confused

The link to download the VLC program should be at videolan.org.

@Ticomaya,
Thanks, Tico. Smile

What's the difference between "exec installer" & the "no installer needed "version/s"?

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html

Which is the appropriate one for Firefox/XL?

The Exe Installer is easier for you to deal with.

VLC is a "stand-alone" product, so it doesn't interface with FF.

I re-read your initial post in this thread ... are you experiencing problems viewing videos in FF? I thought your problem was with RealPlayer.

Yes, especially with sound (& some image) "break-up".

Only because Mozilla has said that the latest Adobe updates could cause problems with RealPlayer.
I've been experiencing the video problems since those updates ... but I'm not certain that the Adobe updates are the cause. I may be wrong about that, of course. But there wasn't any problem before the updates.
One of the solutions suggested (by Mozilla) was to upgrade to the newest version of RealPlayer ... on checking that out I discovered that there was cost involved, which I'd prefer to avoid at the moment, if I can ....
(When I discussed the (video) problems at work last week, it was suggested I try VLC as an alternative to RealPlayer.)

I hope that makes sense now, Tico.
Sorry for the confusion.
Messy, I know!

@msolga,
It could be a problem with Adobe. FF uses an Adobe Flash plugin to play some video content.

But, certainly, the solution does not involve a payout of money.

Are you having a problem with ALL video, or just some videos at some sites?

Meanwhile, here's a video to keep you entertained ... my newest, favorite song of all time ...

Yeah, but I'll bet your humming it right now!

Oddly, the sounds of the roller coaster do not detract from the song one bit.

Or were you referring to my comment about Adobe Flash?

Oh. I didn't know that.I'll see if I can locate & install it then.

Worse on some sites than others.

Take this one from Youtube ... (while it's playing) if I scroll the page up or down with the cursor, on the bar on the right side of the page, the sound breaks up badly. (please excuse my lack of appropriate tech language. I hope you understand what I mean)

Similar problems with some videos on news sites, though not nearly as bad if without the scrolling.

@msolga,
Have you looked into that possibility the issue is in the hardware? Could possibly be a motherboard issue. Which would most likely be unfixable or too costly to fix.

If you're looking for a Real Player and Window Media Player alternative:

Agh.
Don't say that, tsar!

But in answer to your question, no I haven't considered hardware issues. Yet.
Not that I would have known how to go about that!
At this point in time I'm looking for the simplest causes (& hopefully, solutions).
But it could be anything, couldn't it? Neutral
