I don't think she is. I've heard the terms "X-Nazi" and "X-Fascist" widely used in America, with all kinds terms substituted for "X". Seinfeld is just the tip of the iceberg. As a German with a sense of history, I don't find such remarks funny, but I've learned to take them in the spirit they were given. And I've rarely heard them given in a spirit of serious meanness.

@Thomas,
I have a friend whose daughter got very upset with him when he called, in jest, his grandson, the daughter's child, a "terrorist." Today that's become a sensitive term, apparently.

@Lustig Andrei,
The times would matter. Our fathers (and even mothers, in my case) fought in Europe, and we were raised with our ears full of the stories of their virtue and the pure evil of the Nazis. It was a good deal of what was on television in the 50s, too. For people over the age of 50, the term Nazi is probably fraught with more insult than it would be to a young person.

and loathing and fear, in many cases. I heard some Japanese people talking about them in a restaurant once - unbelievable.

@snood,
No, it happened here with someone I respect and like, and I was astonished that they took offense.

Yeah, my friend used it just that way, as a kind of term of endearment. But this was soon after 9/11 and his daughter, the child's mother, took umbrage.

@Lustig Andrei,
And I suppose the child's hope of being a pilot were dashed after that as well.

No, you are not a Native American. You are a native American. There is both a linguistic difference and a time difference.

You are an Inept American in the Strunk & White sense.

There is a cult of ignorance in the United States, perfectly defined here by Parados.

Further, there is a cult of ignoring the obvious in favor of "paradosing" any discussion.

In that, you stand out as the leader of that particular cult.

Did you hypercorrect, Parados?

Can you not read, Parados? That quote isn't about me, nor was it me who said that.

Off you go on your paradosing.
