You always get a virtual hug from me, but I have been around enough people that don't like to be hugged so as to look for clues if one is ok. We've had threads about that.
My family wasn't touchy, so I learned hugging as a social mode later. Maybe early seventies. While I say that, I am certain they held me, but they weren't social huggers.
If there is anything I don't like, it's proforma hugging. If I hug even mildly, I mean it.
