Hooray for the thumb-down/ignore option!

I never thought I'd write in praise of the thumb-down option, but ...

Isn't it great (while we wait for our current nuisance poster to unblock the grey matter between his/her ears & finally become bored with non-stop nuisance posting) that those posts can simply be thumbed-down? Or completely ignored.

Outta sight, outta mind!
Yay! Smile

Well, it certainly is good to ignore those who are just trying to get a rise out of you, or who just want to spew their hatefulness.

@Setanta,
Well, naturally I agree with you, Setanta. Smile
I was also very handy to concertina that prolonged spambot attack into invisibility. (Almost)

@msolga,
I saw 2 refereces to a "Spambot" this AM. Was there one and what did it appear as? I always miss these plateaus of our civilization.
I taped a bunch of "Perils of PAline" from the TCM channel and was playing them . I went to sleep over the damn things and they spooled all night so both my wife and I incorporated the stories into dreams. Silly tv

An endless, really fast stream of almost identical postings to "New Posts", farmer.
With no actual posted comments, just: "..."
I'd say (guessing here) 3-4 pages of New Posts-worth.
Relentless.
I decided it was an excellent time to go out for coffee & cake with a friend.
When I returned some hours later, it was (finally) all over.

@msolga,
well good thing I missed it but I wonder if it was some spambot from the Orient? Was there any message done in the white letter format?

Oh well, theres enough here in the real posts to keep me semi- incredulous.

There's something i wouldn't bother with, i'd just go away. It was easier here, because it was already late in the evening--but when the site is down for maintenance during daylight hours here, it doesn't bother me. I come here because i'm online for another reason already.

@farmerman,
No messages at all. In white, black, pink or purple letter format.

@Setanta,
I guess you could call it A2K daytime Sunday "prime time" in Oz, Setanta.
So it was rather hard to avoid.

Say it, sister! Say it loud! Praise our saviour, the ignore button! Hallowed be its name! Halleluja!

. . . uh --- actually I meant to say: MsOlga must have said something. How else could Farmerman be responding to her?

I thought it must be April Fools Day all over again when I came on line last night. Fortoonaitlee, I was tired and needed to go to sleep anyway.

MsOlga, it was at least 25 pages of spambot -ery. A few of us posted on chat, and there Thack said he estimated to be at least 750 posts. Ugh.

Thack brought up a song by The Flaming Lips about robots -
maybe this is it (there seem to be several versions):
Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots

That many? Surprised
Yikes.
It was around 2 or so at the time I went out.
But then, come to think of it, I'd thumbed so many down, it was hard to tell how many normal-sized pages that would have been ....

@msolga,
I was thumbing down but it dawned on me there might have been countless posts so I looked at further back pages - and the 1 2 3 thing at the bottom only went as far as twenty five; I looked as I worked my way to 25 and most pages were a complete blanket of spam. Fascinating in a strange way, why anyone would do that.

@ossobuco,
It's a program...automated. Denial of service attempt by a malicious do-nothing hacker.

I saw the nutcase had 980 posts over their 4-hr-stay on A2K before I fell asleep.

@msolga,
You don't need to thumb down, MsOlga.
Just put the culprit on ignore and then go to "filter noise" (right under new post) and you won't see any of your ignored threads.
