April 2007 we're looking at!
Oh poor, Margo, don't you get a birthday every year?!

Plenty of good hotels that aren't paradores and costing the earth en Espana.

Laughing Laughing Birthday's two weeks from today (17th) - (it's already Saturday here) but...April 2007 is a bigger one!
There are, of course, a squillion suitable, less expensive, hotels in Spain, and I've stayed in some of them. But the parador at Granada is so beautifully located, that I've had it in my sights for years. I think there's a room there, with my name on it, for one night!

I'm SURE there is, and probably for more than one night if you did but know it... so, an Aries catlover, eh?

No, I think one night might be it! And then all my friends, relatives, and even my enemies will have to make donations.

I checked on the website - and it was something like $AUD300/night....sheeesh Shocked

$300? That's what, $175-225USD?

Arggh... I could handle it for one night, but that's a lot for Spain. (Are there any multi-bed rooms and we could pile in together?)

BTW, I must point out that there is something just excellent about people born on the 17th of any month.... wouldn't you say, Clare?

Urs- You stayed at the Ronda parador? That is so great! I've only been there for a few coffees and a meal and I never have walked down into the canyon. Did you ever go directly across the street to the restaurant which also fronts on the gorge?

17 just happens to be MY lucky number, Pattikins!

Prekids, we used to camp in a tiny tent in Spain and have long breakfasts at the paradores. Memories!

Mine too.... Good (Avatar) Egg, Clare!

Hvaen't camped in Spain, but I adore the paradores. Even the one just below the flight path of the Malaga airport is a pleasant alternative to a long wait at the airport... if you've got a car.

I'm going to Spain, too!
Sugar (and everyone else),
I found this site on a search about Spain. I'm a 21-year-old college student, and I'll be traveling to Spain this summer as well. (Madrid for the majority of the time, with smaller trips to other cities and attractions.) Thanks to all of you for your helpful advice. Unlike Sugar, I won't have a strapping young lad to accompany me and carry my luggage...but if the Spanish men are as guapo as you all say they are, maybe I'll find one?
