" I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her
period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15:19- 24. The problem is, how
do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense. "

Actually, some orthodox jewish men go out of their way not to touch women who they aren't well-acquainted with, for that reason. When I went to a Jewish middle school, I had a hebrew teacher who refused to shake hands with our mothers when they came in for the open house. He was morally traumatized when he had to have his hair cut by a woman because the guy who usually did it wasn't there.

Orthodox jews are scary.

I also think it's just as hokey to allow states to decide on it because people want to be free to live where they wish and still be married if they cross some state line.

Just reminding that this is a fact in quite a couple of countries. (Remember that juneviles, to get married in Gretna Green/Scotland, crossed the border - English as well as continental European couples.

And although registration law (and thus civil marriage) is a regulated by federal law in Germany, the states have laws re. how to do the registrations > which leads to the fact that especially gay couples like to get registrated in some states and avoid others.

theollady said (to me, I think)
Quote:
The quote above, from early in this topic, leaves space for thinking that every studious Christian, who believes the Savior Jesus Christ, came to save us from our sins---- are the ones who batter, bomb, hate and betray. This seems to be intended to belittle the intelligence of "born again believers". And is also untrue.
From this and other topics, where persons believe they have the truth from the core of their human minds, and use terms like "HATE", "despise" and other forms of dislike and vehemence toward believers in Christ and His teaching-- I have developed a realization, I do not belong in conversations here.

You might not, it's your call. But if you're attempting to describe my notions in that passage above, you are about half right and half wrong. If, for example, you were suggesting that blatham despises any individual who allows/welcomes the subjugation of his or her personal intellectual autonomy, you'd be right on the money. If, on the other hand, you were suggesting that blatham hates Christian believers, then you'd be wrong. I don't hate the believer, only the belief.

Dennis Miller said of people's preocupation with who is putting what where and with whom, "There is nothing more fascinating to me in the world than my orgasm, and nothing less fascinating to me than your orgasm."

Scrat, I guess this has to be tit(sic)-for-tat after all. Congrats for remembering that Dennis Miller quote. The government in our bedrooms is much too close to the TV camera in the bedroom in "1984."

Just in case no one has posted this yet:

Click on this link to sign the DNC's petition to GWB objecting to his backing of the Federal Marriage Amendment - a constitutional amendment that is nothing short of legalized discrimination. It is shameful.

Eva, Doesn't make you wonder how "fair-minded" folks can continue to support a president that wants to legalize discrimination in this country? Have people in this country forgotten how to think for themselves?

Just heard on the news that 15 percent of religious voters will consider religion when they vote in the next election.

A dozen gay marriages scheduled in New York today, this train is rolling faster than a decision on it could ever be made. What now?

I would assume that they would be married without having any of the legalities that a hetero-marriage would have and that they will not be filing a joint tax return next year.

Yeah, this is going to backfire it would seem. Some in the gay communitee are saying that the ones forcing the marriage issue are taking the movement backwards in giant steps.

I wonder what percentage of non-religious voters will consider religion in the next election. (I would bet it is more than 15%.)

A question aside: what has the State Health Department to do with marriage licences?
