Mirrors. They do it all with mirrors. There are actually only a dozen people in the whole country, but over a billion mirrors, each reflecting into the next one. The dozen people are deathly afraid we'll figure out that it's all a scam and we'll invade and take the country away from them. It must be the truth. My educational system assured me that it was so.
No, definitely not smout. Probably fronge, and if not fronge then almost certainly dorf.
